Bobby Dodd 5th toughest ACC stadium

I was at that game, and I firmly believe Auburn 03 and ND 06 were louder, due mostly to stadium renovation.

UNC has a crap stadium with poor fan support, no loudness, and shouldn't be above us on the list. VT, FSU, and Clemson all probably deserve to be above us, but if we start winning more, that may change.

ND players interviewed about BDS said it was "easily as loud" as any Big Ten stadium, including Michigan and Penn State. The remodeling, putting all the students into the EZs, and pushing the seats closer to the field, really increased the noise level on the field. It may not get as loud in the upper decks as Clemson, but where it counts, BDS is loud.

back in the day when there were bleachers on the cinder track that surrounded the field--every last one of them filled-- it was very loud. Humanity all the way down to about ten feet from the chainlink fence behind the benches. "intimate atmosphere." Up close and personal with the gods of the day--Bryant, Jordan, Howard, Dodd, Graves, Dietzel, Parseghian, Stallings.

I think this list gets the first three toughest right - Va tech, Clemson, and FSU are tough places indeed.

The bottom two are easy - Wake and Duke. Duke's is the better stadium, but neither is a tough place to play.

I think if by "tough place" you mean a hostile, loud, playing environment, I'd rank the stadiums as follows:
4. NC State
5. Georgia Tech
6. Virginia
7. UNC
8. Maryland
9. Miami (if they are good or average, #4 if in top 5)
10. Boston College

UNC rank climbs, as does Wake, Duke, and UVA if by a hard place to play you mean favorable officiating.

The 2001 Maryland game instilled the memory into me that even the old BDS was loud enough to shatter a human soul.

State probably should be slightly ahead of Tech if for nothing else, that they show up no matter who they play. In fact, half th time my son doesn't know who they are playing, just that there's a game. Remember the crowds and support were the reason O'Brien left BC for State. We're great when it matters, but for some games we might as well play on the road.

A WITCH!

'06 ND was the most exciting gathering I've been a part of during my time as a season ticket holder (only 4 years). That was our best team in a while and it seemed to me that the whole stadium knew it. The players sure knew it as the defense tore Brady Queff a new one for most of the first half.

The combination of the best flyover ever and Calvin's big 1st half really helped jumpstart an already electric atmosphere. For a moment there I actually started to believe an undefeated season was not out of the question. Of course, Gailey Ball took effect before the 1st half even ended...taking some of the sizzle out of the game. Even with the loss, however, I left Atlanta feeling really good about our team and our fans.

I'm too biased to be able to judge, but I think only VT, Clemson, and FSU have the potential for a night like we had that night.

Agree with everything. Honestly, I was going in expecting at least a third of the stadium to be ND fans, and my dad agreed as well. I was so happy with how many Tech fans showed up and how loud we were. The ND fans really were a non-factor and the place was shaking with every big play. I will never forget the feeling when Calvin caught that TD pass to put us up early...the whole thing was just surreal.

WW better than Groves? No way. Especially not after there new renovations are done.

Winning on your home field is more important than filling seats. We've vastly outperformed the Wolfpack in that department. Maybe Tom OBrien will change that; but, until he does, Bobby Dodd beats Carter Finley hands down.
