Booooommmmm!

What I don't get is why does a program like TEXAS - top 5 IMHO - need to lock up an ASSISTANT??? This guy has NO head coaching experience. He might suck as a HC, and they're locking him up? Me thinks Texas can go hire who it wants when it has an opening. They did it with Mack! We hired a coach with D1 HC experience - why can't Texas???????

Chillax, bro and look through this a little bit.

The most important thing this does is back Clemson, UT, and Auburn off. Remember that Texas is looking at a national championship game matchup. These don't come around often, even if you're Texas. So by locking up Muschamp there's less room for shenanigans and distractions during the ultimate game prep.

Also, it takes a attention off TT and Oklahoma this week and puts it back on Texas. Pure Machiavellian. Remember, assuming TT loses at Oklahoma, the Big 12 rep for the Big 12 champ and then BCSCG will be decided by popular opinion.

Next, if head coaches can be fired anytime, anywhere now (e.g., Bowden, Fulmer), how much more can a glorified "Assistant to the Manager" be axed if its not working?

both sides have 8 years to think about it. Muschamp could be getting "groomed" along the way.

all this does is give him a big ol raise, and keep him from thinking about other jobs right now

he may never be the TX head coach

2nd bonehead move this year by texas. the other was retiring kevin durant's jersey.

The BCS title game is SEC Champ vs. Big 12 Champ, there isn't much that could happen to change that. USC and Penn State are going to play weak teams, whereas SEC and Big 12 champs are going to finish the season by beating very good teams. Only way this wouldn't happen is a 2-loss champion for SEC or Big 12, not very likely, in that case, public opinion is not going to help that much.

Muschamp move is to make sure they have stability with coaching staff.

Exactly what I said. If Texas is preparing for a BCSCG, they don't want someone stealing their defensive coordinator between Dec. 6 and January 8. Which someone was going to take him (and still might try).

So I assume some of you heard the Stews today portraying this coach-in-waiting thing as a bad thing for prospective black head coaches? They were beyond staunchly opposed to the idea because they believe that it denies black coaches a shot at a job.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that if the school wanted to give anyone of any skin color a shot other than the guy they're paying the big bucks to, they wouldn't have done the deal. A school shouldn't have to stop and go down an NAACP checklist in order to make a coaching move.

BOOOOOOMM......

Sure didn't look like much .. vs .. Texas Tech.
His defense stunk that game.
