Bowl Attendance

It was not off by much...off 5% from last year.

This year was 68,100 with LSU/Clemson
2011 was 72,000 with FSU/SC.
2010 was 72,900 with Auburn/Virginia

Announced attendance @ 68K, but I seriously doubt that there were 68K people there, at least it didn't look anywhere near that number to me.

There are pictures out there from the Sugar Bowl
with attendance looking like a Miami home game.

Has to be an economic "disaster" by New Orleans and Sugar Bowl "standards."

It's not the "off 5%" that matters, it's the second smallest Chik/Peach crowd in 2 decades!

The average college football fan is hurting right now in this economy. The extra money for things like college games just isn't there.

Also, it doesn't help the bowl games that are on a weekday right after the Christmas/New Years holiday.

I think college football had jumped the shark.

It's not just bowl attendance that's down, it's attendance everywhere. Conference realignment isn't going to help either. The bubble will eventually pop.

I've found myself gravitating more and more towards pro ball the last couple years. I'm just starting to find college games not involving GT to be less and less interesting (not to say I haven't watched some entertaining ones this year). I think there are multiple contributing factors, but part of it is just that college is becoming more and more of a minor league for the NFL. It's becoming way too much about money and people take it so öööö seriously.

I'd imagine that relatively cheap HDTV's and surround sound systems make a lot of people question the expense of going to games.

Times are pretty tough these days and people will end up making cutbacks. The issue is that once a person gets used to being without something it can be hard for them to go back. I've pretty much stopped going to away games myself.

I can't stand watching our games on TV....from my endzone seat at BDS, I can see how wide open our WR's are on passing plays. You don't see that on TV. Can't remember which game it was, but one of our games this season we had a wide open WR or AB for a TD on the first play of the game and Tevin threw a quick out for about 5 yards.
