I'm considering going to the Peach Drop at Underground after the game but am not sure about how to get there. It's fairly close to the dome so I'm tempted to walk, but it'll be cold and I'm not exactly comfortable taking my girlfriend through that section of town. Also, I'm parking in the blue lot for the game, which is northwest of the congress center and in the complete opposite direction of underground, so the walk back to my car could be rough. Then again, leaving the dome after the game there's going to be tons of traffic and all the underground parking will already be full (arriving at the drop 30 minutes before midnight won't be a good parking situation), so I'm a bit stuck.

Anyone have any ideas?

It will be crowded. But Marta back & forth between Underground & GWCC is pretty easy.

You might not have time depending on how the game goes. I seem to remember not having time to get anywhere before midnight after going to the Peach Bowl last year, so don't count on it.

I hoofed it last year after the CFAB, and plan to again this year.

It took about 15 minutes and there were TONS of other fans walking the same route.

As an aside, last year's game went into overtime and we still made it w/ time to do shots in a buddy's condo before the drop.

B/w that and the new clock rules you will have plenty of time to get there.

Walk out of the dome up to cent. park, turn right on marrieta st, cant miss it.

If the game doesn't go into overtime, you may have a chance to get there in time, but it will be sooooo crowded! Good luck and have fun!

yeah you might as well go cause even if you want to go home traffic is going to be terrible trying to get out of downtown. i wouldnt walk or take marta that late at night. good luck

If you "hoofed it" last year after the game, then you missed the peach drop - unless you left the game early. The game ended past midnight.

Not necessarily - last year the game didn't start until after 8pm, it was held up by ESPN showing the finish of the earlier game.

So what is the consensus? If there is a group of people (5-10), think it is safe to walk to the Peach Drop after the game, and then walk back to Tech after that?

I've walked from Tech to Phillips/Centennial Park a ton of times late at night after hockey games, and it's not that bad. There's a police station on the way, you're walking through GSU dorms/housing most of the trip, there are plenty of street lights, etc.

In a strange, sadistic way, this makes me reminisce about the pre-'96 era. That walk would have been straight through the Techwood projects.
:eekhair:

Plan on catching the Drop then taking marta east but I've read here that's not recomended late, why not?

The east/west line is the sketchiest, but after the peach drop there will be 100s of people on the train. You'll be safe.

We are taking MARTA down to the game but meeting my son and his gf in the blue lot. We are going to the Peach drop after the game but I am relying on him to navigate us that way. He did say it was about a 3/4 mile walk. The weather is supposed to be cold so I am carrying a lined jacket with me.
