Bowls are RIPPING GT (and others) off...

An "inconvenient truth" here. We will not be able to call ourselves a big time program (despite paying a coach $2 million per) until we can sell tickets in Atlanta, and sell every MF'ing ticket to the bowl games--whether they are in Boise, Miami, or Jax. A pathetic statement on our fan base that we cannot sell our allotment to a fine, fine bowl such as the Gator Bowl--in our own backyard. And you better believe all the bowl committees know all the numbers. Very poor for our reputation. Well at least next year we won't have to worry about that subject since we won't be bowl eligible.

There are some thing one must understand about a Boise game. I tried and tried to get an air fare to Boise that didn't take all day and didn't put me in the poor house. I finally concluded that there was no way I from Huntsville International AP could get to Boise. The fares were such that I could have gone to Paris France cheaper than to Boise. Throw in hotels, meals and Paris would have been cheap in comparison, so it's the TV for me. I have seen nothing about the GTAA making a charter flight. They may have but if they did I sure never received notice of it. For a game like this the GTAA should arrange for hotels, flights etc to make it easier on fans who want to go.

This time last year the wheels were finally starting to fall of the "fan of chan bandwagon" by even his staunchest of supporters after that kick-ass, high octane performance in the ACC CG. People weren't really in the mood to spend money. With a new coach, let's just hope problems such as this are behind us.
Then, what was the excuse when we went down there against ND & Miami?

Agreed. But it wouldn't have cost much (if any) less. ANd it would only be convenient to those of us in metro Atlanta. As I said previously, this is a department that GTAA is really missing the boat on.

I blame dumbo.

Agree about the hotel and the air fare but a Boeing 717/737/767 etc about 80 or so in Atlanta, stop in H'ville about 20, then in big D about 20 or so more and it wouldn't have taken all day to get there. I searched and searched for a route that didn't take all day but Boise is off the beaten track. I could go thru Denver, or San Fran, or NY but it was the time involved. Cold or no cold I wanted to be there to support the brave and the bold. I just didn't want the time involved.

If I'm getting on a charter in Atlanta, I don't want to spend the rest of my day bouncing around the country picking up your ass. And doing something like that , WOULD take all day. Besides, if we're only talking about 120 people when we're supposed to figure out how to put 8,000 butts in the seats, I'm not surprised at all that GTAA wouldn't want to get involved.

Not bowl-eligible?.....impossible!! We were eligible every year Chan was our Head Coach! You and your buddies over on JuzzOff siad he sucked!.....how could we get WORSE with him GONE???

The "inconvenient truth" that you have to remember about the Humanitarian bowl is that Boise is supposed to play in it, and when they do they sell a ton of tickets. They even count the bowl attendance towards Boise's home attendance figure. No one(relatively) is going to fly into Boise to see a third rate bowl, no matter how well they travel.

If there was a demand for this type of arrangement, don't you think someone in the private sector would have put it together by now? I know a lot of travel agencies regularly put together such trips for schools that have an avid fan base.

...unless they are smart enough to plan a ski/snowboard trip around it.

Is the skiing good in Idaho? Just curious, because when I think skiing, I think Colorado, Utah, British Columbia... When I think Idaho, I think potatoes, white separatist...; but not skiing.

Well, keep the damn Bowl East of the Mississippi within driving distance, then fans will even go to crappy Bowls.

These happen during the Holidays where people have obligations/families. If it's not a decent bowl and it's not convenient, time and price, then no-ones going to go.

I'm not going to spend all that money to fly to Boise for a team I hear about once every 4 years, Fresno. It's like flying out to Boise to play Sanford!

I also didn't attend last years Bowl b/c I was just there 2 weeks earlier when we lost.

I did buy 4 Emerald Bowl tickets when they offered points for them. The military folks who got them, didn't even go.

Even from Seattle, the air fare to Boise is a bit steep. Thus, I'm opting to drive 8 hours in snowy weather. As far as skiing goes. Well, Boise ain't exactly Whistler, Teluride or Jackson Hole, but yes, there is some decent skiing.

Our players will be taken to Bogus Basin. It's not the best, just the closest. I recommend Brundage in McCall (about 3 hours north).

Aeromech,
Don't worry about the AB. They're up in the panhandle.

an emotional response that has little to do with the post

Since you know what a real fan base is like, please explain WVU, FSU, Az. State, UVA, Tx Tech, MICH, etc.

did any of these sell out their allotment?

Bowls are in business to make money and the BCS schools make so much that they are held handicap to too many games, extravagant costs, etc.

The market price for most bowl game tickets should be in the $50 range and maybe $75 - $100 for the BCS games.

Heck, UGA fans are trying to get 25% - 30% of face for their left over Sugar tix.

Prices are a joke for the fans and the schools but the schools have to play because they are making a killing on football and if they cut the bowls then why even have national championships for 95% of the sports since they are alos money-losing ventures.

GT's fanbase does need to grow and we do need to sell out Bobby dodd; you are right about that but how many tickets we sell to Boise has absolutely zero to do with our fanbase. The Gator this year will have at least 30,000 empty seats and i'm guessing you won't care or make a judgment on either school.

Heck, you can buy a ticket to the Orange bowl for $10 anywhere online right now.

There is simply not real demand for so many bowls.
