Boycott Tech???

Re: LOL!!!.......

Ah, so their families get along and they have happy Springtime picnics and skip thru the dandelions together.....well, that changes everything! HA!!

You obviously have no idea what DB's reaction was when the proposed changes to the academic structure and (more importantly) the elimination of coaching staff monitoring came down with O'Leary's departure! He was not only NOT happy, but matter-of-factly TOLD WC that it would NOT work and would blow up in their collective faces.

Well.....turns out he was right, huh? Maybe that fact and the fact they were friends kept WC from accepting DB's offer to resign over flunkgate, huh?

The REAL irony, however, is that "flunkgate"....in one form or another.....was coming with OR without O'Leary leaving and the changes made subsequent.

Just be glad DB got rid of some other "problems" within the AA after O'L left, or the NCAA findings coming down this afternoon would be nothing compared to what could have been!

Re: LOL!!!.......

Did i read correctly that WC told DB to tell CCG not to interfere with the academics and monitoring of athletes?

So this came from WC?

Conceivably, if you had noone in the job you can't point a finger at someone for not doing the job. That, imo was the reason for the separation.

Re: LOL!!!.......

So after the NCAA report, you want to say that Braine stood up to Clough? Like the NCAA says about our games from 1998-2002, that didn't happen. Even if he told Clough that it would not work, why didn't he DO something about it? Because he was afraid of making his buddy Wayne mad and losing his cushy job, that's why. He could have appealed to Kim King and others who had power over Clough. Did he play those cards?

This situation would not have happened under Homer Rice. Homer knew how to play the game; Braine does not. He is Clough's boy, and Clough knows nothing about managing intercollegiate athletics.

Braine and Clough are not and never have been adversaries, no matter what a couple of you may want to believe, and this is not just a boss-subordinate relationship.

I could say more, but some things don't need to be posted on the Internet. This thing goes back to their days at VT.

Clough a problem?

I've been reading about how everyone is ripping on Clough. But, I really think he is a great President. Every year, he does things to make the institution better, and he has plans to keep doing so for years to come.

Don't get me wrong, I'm one of the biggest football fans I know. I'm there 3 hours before every game, ready to run for that front row. But, a lot of other Presidents would let projects sit idly by while a lot of smart kids are crammed into tiny lecture halls.

I don't think Clough is hindering the football program. I truly believe, with a just a tiny bit more talent, we can win compete for the ACC championship. And, we'd have an easier time recruiting if we would win the games we're supposed to win! With the exception of VaTech, I think we could have won every game so far.

I just don't think its fair to rip on a great President of Tech for our athletic woes.

Re: Clough a problem?

Thanks for the emotional appeal. However, the facts indicate otherwise. Go to the Hive and read Gregg Garrett's post of yesterday, and you'll start to understand that the "tiny bit more talent" that you want is not likely to happen, and there is far more to the story that Gregg posted.

Clough may be a good academician, but he is no friend of GT football, although he does not understand that he is not. We all have our skills, and athletic administration is not his.

Re: Clough a problem?

Very true. He called Tech football just a game, or wtte. If he means that, it would mean that football is a drain on the budget or that he thinks its profit can be easily replaced. Either way, its scary based on what's been going on.
