Brent Key = Bobby Ross

I don't think the prevent defense was a bad call. We got the ball back up 7 with under 6 minutes to go. There was no reason to think we wouldn't have been able to at least get to the 2 minute warning before we punted or tried a FG.
I think prevent was only problematic because they were very loose with holding calls. We weren’t going to have a Miami situation or any stress for Beck rushing 3 and he is so much worse under any sort of stress. I would’ve just kept running the base D. Worst case it likely would’ve killed more clock. We never allowed a big play earlier in the game really. Their WR had no confidence.

We ran and passed ALL over them in the 1st half, you don’t beat ugay if you play scared chan-ball
We didn't play scared in the 2nd half either. Had 563 total yards against them, more than anyone since 2020.

2nd half possessions were:

3 & out
18 play FG drive
6 play TD drive
3 plays - fumble
6 plays - out of time

But we did at the end of regulation, running HK up the middle and burning 30 seconds effectively killed any chance of getting in fieldgoal range

The 1st down play was similar to UNC, trying to catch them off guard with a delayed handoff. I don't think he intended to play conservative there, but agree that we burned way too much time getting the next play set up.

yes, absolutely a bad play call. We should have been throwing the ball and even if we didn't make the catch the clock would have stopped. We still had 2 TO's if I'm not mistaken. When Singleton fair caught the kickoff there was at least 1:02 left. Plenty of time to have at least gotten in FG range. Not sure if Birr could have come through but sure would have been nice to have gotten a try.

I've seen some speculation that the prevent defense was dictated more by the injuries than playing scared. It's one thing to drop 5 or 6 in coverage when your starters are in. When you're pulling kids out of the stands to suit up for the nickel spot due to a pile up of injuries, it's better to drop 7 or 8.

I'm by no means a football coach, but there is some logic to that.

Also threw on 2nd down in the fumble drive which shocked me.
