Brent Key presser

If we hire Key as HC then Pres Cabrera wasn't wholly truthful in his presser today, no question. If we're making a good-faith effort to build back this football program - the proverbial cover page of the Institute to the general public - then you don't hire an untested guy in that position. You just don't.
They would have to hire a big name for their OC and/or DC; spend money on the staff, etc or it would repeat GT history: go cheap and hope for the best.

Was it just my imagination or did Key snicker when talking about changes to practice routines?

Not sure about that specific moment, but I kind of got the opposite impression during the press conference in general. He sounded pissed to me. Especially when people were laughing about the depth chart vs ATL chart.

I noticed the flash of anger about the depth chart question.

I am hopeful. I like having a Tech man in there and really want him to be successful.

So do I. While I love the idea of having a Tech guy in that position, it shouldn’t be one of the major requirements. OTOH, Pepper and Curry were the last “Tech men” to be HC. While neither succeeded to the extent we wanted, they were both pretty good. Pepper didn’t get the support he was promised, and Curry brought us back from the abyss. We’ve done much worse.

My hope is that Key, who was around with O'Leary a few years, will have talked to GOL and gained some guidance about how to take over in mid-season. One ray of sanity is his mention of working with the punt team. You would have thought any youth league or high school coach after the first one was blocked would have spent time correcting it, but it just shows what a dumb ass Collins was. There is no difference between can't or won't, so the result was the same. As for Key, if he ditches the money down juice crew and doesn't wear skinny pants this Saturday, it will be an improvement.

I don’t think O’Leary is some panacea of knowledge. He was all aboard the Collins train.

Not many former OLs can make skinny pants work, think we’re safe there. Had a Bill Belichik look at yesterday’s presser. Old school.
