It is not very often that a University head coach steps away from a multi million dollar job without something going on behind the scenes that is being covered up. This might be one of the few times that the situation is exactly the way that Bronco has presented.Collins is also a defensive coach yet it hasn't shown so not sure it really matters.
Its frankly a little shocking to normal people that this doesn't happen more often. It is not very often that a University head coach steps away from a multi million dollar job without something going on behind the scenes that is being covered up. I agree completely, however most people that rise to the level of head coach making millions of dollars have already rationalized the loss of family time etc. to attain their goal of master of their universe. The majority of thoughtful introspective people who are not driven by power and money are usually weeded out way before they rise to the top of their profession. Its frankly a little shocking to normal people that this doesn't happen more often.
To be successful at these jobs you have to put them first. And not just first, but first, second, third, fourth, etc. Your family ends up an afterthought. Your life outside of coaching responsibilities ends up an afterthought. You are making a ööööload of money and your neglected family has to take solace in that.
What is the purpose of making a ton of money if you have almost no free time to enjoy it? Yes, you want to take care of your family, but doing that takes a balance of time and money and these jobs don't allow much time for family.

DING! DING! DING! Give that [whatever pronoun it is comfortable with] a prize. What we're seeing are people that can finally afford to walk away doing so. There comes a point where you just have enough money. Before sports salaries went through the roof, coaches and players couldn't find a better paying opportunity, but it wasn't enough to step away. They had to be married to the job. People couldn't believe Barry Sanders did it. Then, Calvin Johnson after a decent length to his career, but early. Now, a relatively young Calvin Ridley can take a mental health break. Urban Meyer opened this door for coaches and others are stepping through. He doesn't need the money.
