BUTLER comitted tonight

the kid has pretty good size for a cornerback and runs a legit 4.3....yeah, I'll take it.

So does that make him less of an ath because he was considering duke? I think it is a good pickup.

Well.. when you consider that 95% of the players on last year's DUKE roster could'nt start at GT... then yes.

So Duke doesn't try to recruit good players? They also tried to recruit Pryor, does that mean Michigan, TN, etc, should back off? Dumb comment.

Just for fun here are Lee Butler's Measurables

5'11" 170lbs 4.3 40 yd dash

The number 14 CB according to scouts measurables

5'11" 170lbs 4.45 40 yd dash

Given his measurables he is bigger and faster than the number 3, 4, 5, 7, 10, 11, 13, 16, 17, 18, 21, 23 & 25 ranked CB' for the 2008 class and that is just out of the top 25. Also, he is tied as the fastest CB prospect in 2008. I know that measurables don't tell the whole story but I think I will take a chance here.

I will not argue with landing the fastest CB prospect this year, who wants to major in EE. That's outstanding.

So we beat Duke out of a prospect??

huh?

Lets try doing some homework before posting.

First of all...while other offers is a good gauge it is not the best gauge. Again...look at film and measurables yourself. For instance it was easy to tell from film that Jonathan Smith, Keith Brooking, Vance Walker, etc. were going to be good players despite most not agreeing.

Second...Lee Butler committed back in June...VERY early. This caused most to back off. Plus...he wanted an academic oriented school. He wants to major in electrical engineering. However...even back in June he already had offers from Maryland and Vanderbilt in addition to Duke. Others sniffed around like NCState, Louisville, Clemson, etc. but he stayed strong with Duke.

Our academic strength combined with football success is what caused him to listen to us.

Nice post, Red.

Early commits to schools that aren't big-name football factories usually get undervalued, especially if they refuse to listen to overtures from the Sabans and Meyers of the world.

Marcus Wright is another great example. To a lesser degree we see this happen with early GT recruits, too.

Another good example is Steven Sylvester....this kid is a monster on the field. If we was a signing day decision there would be daily updates on him and he would be at least a 4-star by now.

I have no problem with a recruit from Duke. At least we'll know he can count to 4. As has been said before, it's not like Duke solely recruits the bottom of the barrel. Plus, if he was considering a school like Duke, it means he's in this for an education as well.

We seem to be recruiting a lot of DBs... are all these guys gonna end up on the defensive side of the ball?
