Calling out Buzzoffers

Maybe that's the problem...maybe Gailey Coddles his team too much, maybe they need a good smacking, O'Leary / Spurrier style to get some fire in their belly. Maybe not though, just thinking out loud.

We haven't beaten a winning team since Miami (barely winning at 7-6) 9 GAMES AGO.

Just saying....UVA is 2-1, here's hoping to breaking both losing streaks.

I've seen it from both sides of the spectrum in my days here. They got the other end of it today.

So, Chan gets his timeout advice from CPH and his personnel skills from Bobby Cox. There's a warm, fuzzy thought.

LOL on the Clemson Props.

Charlie Pell and then Danny Ford had a nice run from 77 to 89. 13 years with six conference crowns. Hatfield got one more in his four years then West and Bowden have zero conference champs in 13 years. Bowden has three top 25 finishes in his 8 years. Do I blame the Clemson faithful for low expectations? (no.)

I expected a MNC as a student and Ross got me one. I will be sure to let Chan know that GT fans expect to beat GA. I'm sure that will be new to him.

So you EXPECT certain things as a GT fan. Care to explain more about how we get them? I mean, I'm all about winning...

Bowden has finished the year with a ranked team 3 more times than CCG has at GT and CCG started out with a team that was winning when he took over. Also, Bowden has been on the hot seat forever at Clemson and has a better winning percentage than CCG. Clemson is barely tolerating someone that is better than CCG. CCG barely has a winning percentage higher than Chuck Amato's at NCST.

PantherWreck's coach criteria and expectations:
Criteria:
1) HC experience at a smaller program
2) Wins all the games they should and half or more that they shouldn't given talent they have
3) Has a staff that makes adjustments during games
4) Ties to GT or state of Ga
Expectations:
1) Runs a clean program
2) Wins all at home (means you beat ugag every other time out at minimum)
3) Beats our biggest three div rivals: VT, Miami, Clemson regardless of home or away
4) Wins bowl games

Is that going to happen every year?, no - no matter who the coach is. Will the best coaches get it done? Yes. You get 3-4 years to make it happen before the boot. If you are .500 or worse against ranked teams after 4 years, you are done. Paul Johnson meets the criteria for consideration. K.C. Keeler too, but don't see any ties to GA.

I'm sure there are others - ties means the stud might stay for a while.

CCG has a better in conference winning % since he's been in the conference (24-16 to 22-18). The only way to even the playing field between the 2 coaches. Well, head to head, which CCG trails 2-3.

You can't compare overall winning % because GT consistently schedules tougher OOC and UGA has been a better program over CCGs tenure than South Carolina has over Bowden's tenure (especially the full period covering Gailey's time as GT HC).

Other notes:
1) Tommy Bowden didn't lose 12 scholarship players due to academic oversight. He's probably kept most of 'em due to academic undersight ;)
2) Chan Gailey hasn't endured a complete lack of control of the team like Bowden's group in that near-gang warfare brawl with USC a few years ago

CCG is clearly a better coach than Bowden, by nearly any measure.

I don't really care if CCG is better than Bowden or not, the simple fact is: NEITHER one is good enough to be the coach at GT.

He needs to recruit good enough players, and coach them well enough to beat Georgia (at home ? once every 4 years ?) or resign. It's embarrassing. We have no expectations anymore ... just look at our marketing collateral. They talk about our bowl streak like it's something to be proud of. CCG isn't a horrible person, but he's a middle road college coach. GOL is twice the recruiter and coach that CCG is, and it's proved out by the leaps and bounds UCF has taken under his watch. Either play for titles or pull Heismans name down from the ring, it's embarassing.

I don't think it is productive to compare the two coaches. They are almost total opposites as are their coaching styles.

From the time he took the UCF job, I felt that GOL is at the right place at the right time. IMHO, it is a perfect fit and he should do very well.

GA Tech is a difficult school for GOL to recruit and retain the type of athletes he preferred (Flunkgate). He would have faced the same situation at ND. I'll always fondly remember when he spoke to our Yellow Jacket club during his first year as our head coach. After telling what he planned to do, someone asked him if he was worried about the players accepting his philosophy. "I am not worried about what the players think," he growled. "They had better worry about what I think."

GOL ran off some players, like the lineman he used for a tackling dummy. CCG has lost players also, but not like that. His approach is almost 180 degrees opposite of GOL and requires a different mentality among his players.

Perhaps GOL and John Tenuta are more of the same mindset, while Fridge might be a little more like CCG. I really cannot say that with any degree of conviction since I simply do not know; I can only speculate.

I do know that GOL and Fridge had a great system. GOL would blast a player's poor performance and the Fridge would pick him up, dust him off, pat him on the back and bolster his badly bruised ego. Good cop, bad cop...they were a great team. GOL without Fridge, however,...that is a different story.

As to recruiting...Calvin plus last year's class shows that we can attract very high quality players that fit CCG's criteria. I just hope that Chan stays awhile longer. New coaching personalities, philosophies and styles every five or six years is no way to build a consistent football program.
