Reply Memo to Planet Earth: Recruiting is not going well
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My, my, my…
I swear to you guys that I'm not a person with inside connections. I'm not a whistleblower. I'm not a reporter, analyst, or anybody else who would hear things that outsiders wouldn't hear.
But I have a gift.
And that is the gift of insight. This insight has been demonstrated time and time again. I will make a seemingly outrageous statement, ask a seemingly bizzare question, or express a rogue opinion in the midst of overwhelming opposition. And then days, weeks, or even months later, I will be proven right. It happened when I predicted Charlie Whitehurst would be the worst quarterback in the ACC and Clemson the biggest disappointment. It happened when I predicted Randolph Morris would mock and ridicule our basketball program after he called his press conference near Tech and told his high school coach he was going to commit to Tech. It happened when I laid out nearly the exact details of our meltdown against Virginia Tech the week before it happened. The examples are too numerous to mention, though I have taken the liberty of listing a few.
And now it has happened again. A gut feeling told me that Carlos Thomas was headed to Clemson (see link below from Stingtalk, 3 Dec 2004). It was nothing I knew. It was nothing I'd heard. It was just a sense I had, unexplainable, irrational, indefensible, yet crystal clear before my mind's eye nonetheless.
www.stingtalk.com/ubbthre...Post104156
And now, the rumors swirling around the Tech recruiting community reflect just this very idea. Is it for certain yet? No, by no means is it for sure. But the very thing I predicted is beginning to materialize, like a shape looming up ahead in the fog, dark and ominous.
Recruiting is not looking good, gentlemen. The prospect of even a mediocre recruiting class is disintegrating like a sandcastle at high tide. Don’t misunderstand...The recruits that we do have on board now we need. There is no sleight meant against them or the value they will bring. But to consistently compete at the highest levels of the ACC and against Georgia, Tech needs blue-chippers. Lots of them. We have a few. But one or two per class is not going to be enough. We need to be pulling in a Top 10 recruiting class.
Recruiting is not being helped by our performance on the field. This season may have done more damage to our recruiting efforts than anything the most virulently anti-male sports-hating academic could ever hope to do on her frostiest day. The Hill isn't trying to run off recruits. The Hill is too busy being envious at how effectively Chan Gailey is doing that job for them.
Let me ask you a question. If you were a recruit with several offers to equivalent schools, would you honestly want to play for Chan Gailey? As much as I would want the recruit to come to Tech, I wouldn't be surprised if he said, "Thanks, but, uh… no thanks." Tech in and of itself may have a strong appeal for a recruit… superior academics, great reputation in the business world, excellent location in downtown Atlanta, etc. But when it comes to football… how many times has the coaching staff inspired confidence? Tech is the most mocked team by TV sportscasters in recent memory… from sportscasters all but begging Chan to pull Reggie Ball and install a backup QB to the bafflement and befuddlement over The Spike. Sportscasters enjoy calling Tech games just to see what coaching blunder is going to happen next. It's entertaining for them, I'm sure.
According to Rivals, Tech recruiting is still ranked next to last in the ACC, thanks go out to kind old Jim Grobe, classy enough to accept honors as cellar dweller for the time being. Chances of our moving up past Duke grow slimmer by the day, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that I am wrong. I keep hoping I'll be wrong, I wake up in the morning praying, can't I just once in my life be wrong? Just this once?

Unfortunately, we've all known for a long time Chan's inability to recruit is only magnified by his inability to coach!
NOW after 3 seasons, SAs are clued in and are seeing what a lot of us have been talking about for a long time.

Was you under the spell of the KOSHers and did'nt know how to free yourself?
Welcome aboard Bunger......FWIW I don't have your eloquence but I and many others here on BuzzOFF have shared your foresight and could even have surpassed you on a couple. 3518Techie and I have everyone surpassed on the Damarius Bilbo odyssey.....we just don't brag much about it.
I have enjoyed your posts greatly. Glad to see you here. Be careful to dodge the horsesh*t flung at you from your adversarys on Stingtalk.
Note for Beebad:
Should'nt you advertise or place a report in various GT sports publications that the great Bunger Henry has joined BuzzOFF! Just as banks, real estate, law firms, and auto dealerships advertise additions to their 'family'.

we are bringing in the best athletes ever. Yet, we seem to be competing against Vanderbilt and Duke for them. We've now lost two 4 star recruits and 2 others are soft verbals. The warning signs are there starting with the undersized offensive linemen.

Is that the same Bunger Henry who gets 'neutered' nightly over on StingTalk?
Welcome to the BuzzOff. Sounds like you brought your crystal ball with you. Look into that thing and tell me what the bowl odds are this year so I can invest my bettin money wisely.

Ramblin Reck himself has come out of the closet as seriously critical of CCG. I hope this signals a more realistic discussion on the Hive, one that doesn't cleanse the Hive of serious critics of CCG, just for cosmetic, flag waving purposes.
A loss to Syracuse tomorrow night could bring an avalanche of criticism down on ChanDaMan (and an avalanche of pressure on Mr. Braine). That it might be allowed to be openly discussed on the Hive would be a breakthrough.
I don't see Tech losing to Syracuse. I also don't see an open discussion on the Hive. I do see the Hive moderator doing some major crawfishing on support for CCG.
One at a time, Chan supporters are becoming qualified or former Chan supporters.

without a major announcement(win or lose) regarding an oc and qb coach after tonights game (or even a new head coach) gt will be relegated to a second tier team in the ncaa div-1.

Good Post.
I, too, have made some accurate predictions so you and I share something in common.
Then of course unless you are on medication or are under the age of 17 like Blackwatch, YoYo, Barrel of Dumb, QueerBee or others any moron can see what is happening.
Recruiting is a huge bust.
As others above said, if we can see from the stands this is someone we wouldn't want to be around, how do you think he comes across in the living room?
My call for Gailey's firing is for this exact reason. This will be one more black hole of a recruiting class the next coach in will have to deal with. Next year I doubt ANYONE could have won more than 3 or 4. Might as well have gotten someone in here to start rebuilding. But alas, Braine has decided to save a buck and grind more bad records into the history books next year.

DB has said that 6 reg. season wins will not be enough next yr...so with the lack of depth we already have combined with a small signing class this yr....I don't see how he can win 6 next yr with our toughest games away.
