most of y'all have seen how classy his mother is and now his dad was quoted in today's AJC the Vent, when asked in an interview how Calvin has remained so humble. His reply was "To those to whom much is given, much is expected."

It is just great having the whole family around!

I hope he is around next year, but I am afraid he can't afford to stay.:fingersx:

Don't know the validity of this, but Calvin is good friend of a LaCrosse player. An aquaintance through work knows him and said that CJ plans to stay next year. I wouldn't be suprised to see him finish his school before dominance in the pros.

Part of me would be surprised if he stayed due to the allure of NFL (money, fame, etc.), but the better part believes he will stay due to his family's great humility, the allure of a degree, and the accomplishments still awaiting him in college football.

Guys like Calvin and families like his don't come around often. When they do, they're often not noticed due to the humility and lack of a need of the spotlight. You can't say enough about Calvin or his family.

I love the guy to death, but imo it would be a great risk to stay next year while we break in a new qb.
I definitely want what is best for CJ.

He would definitely need a big insurance policy cause in his case it is a big risk.

Yeah, don't count your chickens.

If he stays, it won't be to get his degree, it'll be because he loves Tech that much.

Exactly that. It will come down to the deal he gets on insurance. You know he would like to stay being the kind of guy he is but if it is too much risk financially, it doesn't make any sense to stay, and we all know he is a smart klid with a smart family.

I am of the belief that he will stay. I just cannot imagine CJ becoming selfish and choosing cash over helping his team win a ACC Championship or even winning the Heisman next season. I could be wrong, but I just cannot imagine that happening.

Not being selfish at all. CJ has done everything asked of him and more for the team, and no one should blame him for going to the pros next year if thats hs descision. That said, seems like theres more guys lately staying their 4th year when they could leave, so never know, he might really want an ACC Champ Ring and an Orange Bowl one to go along with it. Regardless, he'll be a legend at Tech and every WR, and largely every playmaker, will be compared to him for easily the next 20 years.

Selfish or not, I just don't see it happening. I have also heard on multiple occasions that he wants to get his degree.

"Selfish?" You're insane. You'd do it, I'd do it, and I'd tell my son, my friend, or my star player to do it too. He can always come back and get his degree. His signing bonus alone is going to be more money than most entire families see in their entire lifetimes.

What's selfish is fans not understanding his position.

I'm not questioning the decision to go early, but if you can get a few million dollar insurance policy, then why not enjoy the best days of your life. Why go to work too early if you know that the worst case is a few million dollars?

Unless you've played in the NFL you wouldn't understand. I hope he stays but if not he will be a great one!

If he's smart, it'll all come down to how big an insurance policy he can get.

Mover,

What would you suggest? They do have insurance policies now that would pay several million dollars if he was injured. With that as a fallback, would you recommend he make the jump to the business world of professional football or should he enjoy one more year of college?

I don't know the answer. I have heard comments from some players who left early who wish they had stayed (i.e. Chris Bosh). I think you have might have a better perspective and hope you have the opportunity to advise him.

Depending on what pre draft observations are about him will determine his decision.

I talked to the GM of the colts at the UVA game and he says top 5 easy. This is the same GM who put together the Bills of the early 90's so I know he knows what he's talking about.

If CJ's in top 10 I would go.

Mover,

I agree with the top 5 assessment, but as a player would you have enjoyed being in college for another year? I know you didn't have this choice, but would you have felt differently if you did?

I was born in Buffalo and have gone through the Bills ups and downs. I am not trying to flame, only attempting to get the perspective of someone who has been there, done that. In retrospect, would the prospect of one more year of college have been more fulfilling than another year in the NFL?

By the way, I appreciate your sharing of information from a GM whose resume speaks for itself from Buffalo, Carolina, and Indy. He has built teams everywhere he has gone and I am impressed that he attended a GT game. That should tell us something about the program.

Take care,
Mark
