Re: Can\'t believe what I am hearing from some of you people...
New poster here, but long time occasional Hive poster and OF Techster from late '50's - early '60's.
Although I think the jury's still out on this coaching staff -including CG - I do feel they have improved over the course of this season.
One thing I wanted to weigh in on is the FSU
offensive game plan. It looked pretty much on target to me, except I do feel we should have tried a few more running plays in the red zone during the first half when we had to settle for field goals.
But criticizing the long passing attempts because they aren't A.J.'s strength seems lame. And although I don't have the personal QB experience that a number of poster here seem to have, I do know that my choice of an unquestioned expert, The Young Lefthander, always - and he did this past Saturday as well - preaches the virtues of stretching the field even when the passes aren't completed. He says it opens up the rest of your offense. It certainly seemed to help our wide running game Saturday.
Pure and simple the three interceptions - lack of execution - cost us the game not the ooaching. If we are as well prepared against Duke and UGA as we have been the last three weeks, we should be able to avoid the upset against Duke and even have a shot at UGA. But we will have to have a better game from the QB position to challenge the Dogs.
If we can fill in the holes left by graduation in the secondary next year and a few of our players return from injuries, we should be in shape to again make a run at the conference championship - but if we have A.J. playing QB with the inconsistency he has shown this year, we won't challenge. It sure would be nice to see Bilbo get a start or at least a number of snaps against Duke...
