You say Tech doesn't have a brand but Tech does, or did at least. Tech is one of the only teams to wear white at home. LSU wears white because of Tech. During the Dodd years Tech wore white for home and away. LSU didn't want Tech to wear white when they played them in Baton Rouge so they started wearing white and it stuck. In the early 80s the NCAA made it a rule that home teams had to wear a color jersey for home games. Hence the black and navy uniforms of the the 80s and early 90s. Thanks to a petition from LSU, the NCAA dropped the color rule in 1994; the year Tech went back to wearing white at home. Tech has always had a pretty consistent uniform design when it comes to colors and stripes, with some exceptions. That all ended when Johnson came and Russell decided to get cute.

Gailey's teams wore gold at home. Johnson went back to wearing white at home... He didn't "get cute." Remember?
 
Are those all gold helmets? Like, the GT is also gold?

I don't hate these. They're infinitely better than the bubble wrap nightmare.

It's either like a more chrome/metallic gold GT that's reflecting more light, or some faint pearl white. Either way, I dig it.
 
Why can’t we have traditional but also mix it up at times? I like keeping the tradition of gold white gold for our main home uniforms but these are great for a once a year thing. Just hope there will still be blue combos for occasional use in the future.

Johnson did go back to white at home. I was talking about Russell scraping the traditional look for those shoulder stingers.

I, for one, find it difficult to imagine CPJ sitting down with Russell design staff and selecting different stinger stripes or bubble wrap for the jersey numbers. If you want to, send a thank you letter to Dan Radakovich for re-upping our contract with Russell and trying to make us into their de-facto design lab.

That's funny. I don't think CPJ gave a flip what the uniform looked like; maybe just the color. When he was asked about the change back to white at home he said that when he saw Tech playing growing up, Tech was always wearing white. Hence, it was Tech's brand.
 
I dunno how I feel about the gray uniforms overall, but the little details like the shiny piping around the numbers and the hexagon pattern on the gloves and pants looks pretty cool.

Oh, well if CPJ saw Tech in white growing up, it must be Tech's brand. I know all major companies keep the same look and never make changes to their logo (brand). I mean the Buzz of today is exactly like the original Buzz. /sarcasm

Companies change their brand when they have to because things aren't working. You think the dynamic ribbon or Coke bottle are changing anytime soon? But Pepsi fiddled with their logo precisely because they're trying to figure out how to stop being second fiddle.

I'm a traditionalist and prefer GWG for uniforms... but we're trying to figure out the right mix of things in our sales pitch to get great recruits and take this program back to the top. I'm not willing to change the mascot or colors, but if kids like funky uniforms, it's a concession to modernity I'm certainly willing to make to get us back to where we belong.

Bottom line is that this isn't a hill worth dying over, especially if the people making the changes appear to have a plan and vision for how this kind of minor change works together with other things to get us where we want to be. This isn't "change for change's sake" – it's change for recruiting's sake. Big difference.

So recruits are going to care that we wear uniforms that are not school colors ? Lots of people that are not Tech fans know that Tech traditionally has worn white jerseys at home & it should not matter to non Tech fans whether Tech wears white or not but Tech should be recognized at a quick glance at a television highlight or game hence the need to wear a recognizable uniform that is tradition . The school & uniforms should remain white & gold .

Sort of: of course we have a brand but at this time it is a relatively unpopular brand in more ways than one. That is what is being changed; having people talk about your program is a good thing. If we can do that with new and exciting uniforms, then I'm all for it. One of those uniforms was the all white, FWIW and the other was a gold top that everyone loved so we can be different and still have influences from our history and traditions.

It seems an easy concept that we need to grow our fan base and fill the stadium while schools like UGA & Bama have other considerations. We need to make inroads in recruiting; they already are at the top so why should they change or modify what is working.

This is a very special thing we are doing on Saturday in more ways that one. I really think you have to be an odd person not to appreciate that and want it to be a positive experience for everyone involved, in every way.
 
OMG! Not this fallacy that GT has this staunch tradition in regards uniforms. That shit is so far from the truth that it is hilarious. Find a 5 yr period where, GT unis were the same?

Hell if anything, white and gold has been made a priority since CGC stepped on campus.

Nobody said we were changing the school's or uniform's official colors. This is a one time specialty uniform. Jeez.
