It's still 3.0, and requires 12 credit hours. The 12 hour requirement must be why 68% of student-athletes had a 3.0 or better last semester but only 58% made dean's list.

Minimum hours to retain NCAA eligibilty is 12 during the season, so unless those are off season GPAs, they're taking at least 12.

That said, Redshirt Freshmen don't need eligibilty and could be taking 9 hours to get acclimated.

In the dark days of The Shaft, The Curve was a type of grade inflation.

My first grade ever was Calc I (Killer Cain) back in 91'. I got a 19 on a test that was just two questions (but multiple parts). It turned out to be a 'C'.

George Cain saved my scholastic career at Tech. I came into the last Calc course having failed once and dropped another time, on the verge of failing out entirely. I drew him as my prof and heard nothing but horror stories about him. It was time to öööö or get off the pot. He did a great job of guiding me through that class, taking extra time to make sure I understood it, and getting through it. I never looked back after that and graduated.

CSB: He ended up having the season ticket seats in front of me at basketball games after I got out. I was able to thank him and spent the next few years talking Tech hoops with hem.

I'm glad to hear you had a good experience with him. I dropped that class like a hot potato soon after but should have stayed in. I might had gotten out with a B/C. Having never taken a calc class in HS and an architecture major, I was having culture shock in 'higher' math. I sat there in class thinking 'what have I done in coming here!?' while one of my best friends in hs went to Univ of Miami (where I was going to instead) partied and flunked out after the 1st semester. Cain seemed approachable though. I ended up taking Calc I the next qtr with an asian woman (can't remember her name) who taught it totally differently. I ended up with a B.
