UGA already lost to a 4-6 team that lost to App State. Committee doesn't gaf and put them in the top 4. I think the SEC is MUCH more likely to get 2 teams in than 0.
 
Meh, I think they're actually being fairly consistent. They're clearly placing a premium on "quality wins," which is also why Clemson was #5 last week. Bama is a better team than UGA, but when you're hanging your hat on a close loss at home to LSU, your resume isn't very good. They didn't have to play either UGA or UF from the East (they would beat both, but ultimately you can't count wins that aren't there), and their non-conference wins are over Duke, Southern Miss, and New Mexico State.

I personally would devalue UGA more for losing to South Carolina, but I'm fine with going with more of a "who have you beaten" approach as long as it's consistent. And these rankings don't mean much at this point, anyway. Teams will lose, others will add big wins, conference championship games will happen, etc. The only thing that seems clear right now is that LSU/UGA, Ohio State/Minnesota, Baylor and Clemson are definitely in if they win out.
 
If Bama hadwon it all last year and been undefeated so far, you think they’d be anywhere near #3-5?

Clemson is going to win it all again. The lack of respect should give them some motivation.

This all day long. Yes I know they seem to put more stock in "quality wins," but at the end of the day, it's like they forgot the object of the game is to WIN BALLGAMES. Elite teams (teams deserving of playoff spots) do not lose to bad teams. South Carolina is a bad team. UGAg's win over Florida is good. Their win over ND is not nearly as good as people are making it out to be. Louisville hung in there with them until late, USC hung with them, Michigan curb stomped them, and they should've lost to VPI. The SEC's high preseason rankings make all their games "look" better, even though every single year it is proven that they are the most over-rated conference.

Let's take a look at the 1 loss teams in top 10:

UGAg - Wins over UF, ND; loss to SCar (4-6)
Alabama - Wins over TA&M, UT; loss to LSU (9-0)
Oregon - Wins over Wash, Wash St.; loss to Auburn (7-2)
Utah - Wins over Wash, Wash. St.; loss to USC (6-4)
Penn St. - Wins over Michigan, Iowa; loss to Minnesota (9-0)
Oklahoma - Wins over Texas, Iowa St.; loss to Kansas St. (6-3)

UGAg should be AT BEST 3rd in this list, probably lower. They may have the best wins but they also BY FAR have the worst loss, so that should in effect balance that out. Every team can't win every game, and other 1 loss teams lost to good teams, which is expected and should be more acceptable. You also still have an UNDEFEATED Minnesota that has a win over #9 PSU (8-1) ranked lower than them. With a loss to SCar, a team that will end up with a losing record and not make a bowl game, UGAg should not be in the top 5.
 
I agree with that. Oregon would be my 4th at this point in time. OU is real close.

Minnesota has played an extremely bad schedule and struggled against mediocre (at best teams) teams (Fresno St and GaSouthern) The PSU win is great. If they win out, then they deserve to be highly ranked (even winning out but losing to OSU they deserve to be considered for playoff) but I think fairly that they shouldn't be considered in the top 4 or even top 6 at this time.
 
It's all about drama and engineering certain games to seem like they matter more than they should. Btw, is TStan still on this thing or is his term up?
 
Georgie above Bama is absurd. Georgie above PSU is also ridiculous. Doesn't matter. Georgie ain't going.

LSU will win the SEC (1 of 4)
Clemson will win the ACC (2 of 4)
Oregon or Utah will win the Pac 12 (3 of 4)

The Big 10 is likely to cannibalize itself out of the 4th playoff spot, thus paving the way for Bama (possibly a 1-loss Big 10 team, but not likely). It's a shame, because I think the Big 10 is strong this year. Could be the impetus needed to expand this goddamn system to more teams.

They've had a bad schedule and some close games, but they won. Georgia has some very unimpressive looking wins against Vandy, Kentucky, and Missouri. Final scores were one-sided but these are all bad teams that UGAg couldn't get in the endzone against much.
 
Oregon should be #4. Minnesota should, by virtue of an actual schedule and results, be ranked above Bama.

I'm convinced the committee does dumb shit like rank teams higher if they're going to be playing each other.
