Chan Gailey's Next Career Move

You guys are rough. I love the guy.

It's sad that our fan base could feel this way about a guy who never had a losing season and restored us to respectability after a complete debacle engineered and created by George O'Leary that somehow everyone has forgotten about.

The guy was not Paul Johnson or Bobby Dodd, but he is one hell of a man, and an ethical leader of men, and a good (not great) football coach. Our fan base somehow has created a revisionist history of what they think they remember.

I respect the guy for always caring more about his kids and his impact on them than he ever did about what us fans, or even his boss, thought. The guy had enough balls to keep doing what he thought was right during a time that other coaches have completely caved under the pressure - example Richt and the UF endzone party, O'Leary throwing his seniors under the bus late in his last season here, and Joe Burns after the UMD game, or Bobby Bowden at any given moment at any point in time...

GT people should be embarrassed of how we acted during that time. I certainly was - especially towards the end.

The guy was not a great coach, but he was MUCH better than many here remember.

Our whiny fans were much more of a hinderance to him and our program than he ever was to us.

I agree with much of what you post. As such, I am ok with fair-spirited jest (which most of these are) as opposed to true hatred and vitriol (as has been on here before)

i bet Gailey would have some funny suggestions himself. in fact, he just called me and told me to add...

I wish Chan Gailey was in charge of the financial corporations. He would have made no money, but at least we wouldn't have been in this mess.

Silly me. When we hired Gailey I thought we were hiring a football coach not a Choir Director. Good Choir Director, marginal coach....highest paid Choir Director in history. Be happy for him.

I hear you guys - If it's all in jest, so be it. I guess most of it's not too hateful.

I just hate that the guy is so hated. If you're happy with who we have now - I am too. It turned out to be a great change. I just never saw the reason for booing him on a jumbotron during a nationally televised game, and calling him a clown, and comparing him to B*** L**** - - and I must admit that none of that has been done in 'this' thread.

Let's be honest - I'm oversensitive to the subject, and my response is somewhat over reactive - even if well intentioned.

And you're right about the job situation too - My dream job is to be fired one day from a major football factory. It really is a great financial move. I'd love nothing more than to be hated and ridiculed by a college fan base as I sit on my 4 million dollars.

Oh give me a break. Gailey made his own bed. Gailey's first three years, I was patient. Year four, five and six, not so much. He Pissed away opportunity after opportunity not to mention he couldn't develop players most importantly our QBs.

He pissed away the biggest opportunity we've had in 40 years of bowl games when he lost the 2006 ACC Champ game and a chance at the Orange Bowl to a clearly inferior team in what was one of the worst displays of offense I have ever witnessed. He repeatedly lost to UGA in ways I could not imagine in my worst dreams.

He also rode out of here with a fat contract that paid him far more than he was ever worth and he's still getting paid for it at our program's expense.

Ummmm yeah, after 4 years of Reggie Ball. THWChan.

Just because Chan's the kind of guy that doesn't authorize wholesale masturbation and you're rough on him.

Sorry, but I don't think you represent the institute.

Chan Gailey was a complete gentleman, but not a good enough head football coach for a program of our caliber. The fans at Tech were much more forgiving than fans would be at most other major universities. I think it is wrong to say the fans are "whiney" for wanting something more than he could deliver. Some people get emotional about it and probably were insensitive, but that's one reason that coaches get paid the big bucks. I'm sure Chan would admit that being abused by unhappy fans is part of the job.

I think the heart attack took a lot out of him. He never mentioned it but I think his perspective changed after that.

That's not an excuse - I'm just pointing it out.

Chan Gailey coached college football very gay-ly. Yes, I did come up with that all by myself.
