What are our chances against unc. Their ranked 19 and we are ranked 22. What are their strengths and weaknesses and how do we win this game

There d is good against the run. If we dont have Nesbitt i dont think were in big trouble. On defense we have to stop the stupid slants and short passing game.

They lost Brandon Tate for the year a couple weeks ago. He was their best big play threat and the ACC's all-time leader in kick return yardage.

I have seen enough football in my time to know that we could win or lose with either Nesbitt or Shaw playing.

From the little I"ve seen this year, UNC is one of those teams that doesn't do any one thing great, but they do everything well. I agree with CPJ that they might be the most complete team in the ACC this year. Not necessarily the most talented team, but the most complete.

pretty simple

nesbitt = win
jaybo = loss

You're basing that on one bad half after Jaybo was thrown into the mix with maybe 5 snaps to "warm up."

There is no cut and dry formula to win or lose this game. If the same O-line shows up for UNC that showed up for F$U, Jaybo or Nesbitt could either one win the game. Jaybo just needs to get plenty of game-speed snaps this week.

The D needs to be much more consistent this week if we want to win. That last play was very exciting, but we did let them drive about 60 yards to get in that position and kept their previous TD drive alive with an offsides on a freaking punt formation.

Our LB's need to figure out the intricacies of pass coverage this week or it could be a long day with or without TJ Yates for UNC.

I've followed PJ since he was at georgia southern. Just because a team is "good against the run" doesn't mean they will perform well against this offense. it is completely different from most other run offenses.

the better way to determine how a D will do against this O is discipline. if a team can keep their assignments, are disciplined in their approach, and don't give up their big play they can beat us (VaTech for example)

on the other hand, a physically talented team that overpursues and "swarms to the ball" can get caught off guard and gashed for big yards (F$U)

i guess what i'm saying is the better question to ask is: how well coached and disciplined is UNC?

I agree

That big WR of theirs Hakeem something or the other could have a big day. He may be one of the best, if not THE best, WR we'll face until ugag.

Is there any word on Daniels and Reese? Their status is probably as important as Nesbitt's status.

Of course I like our chance much better if Josh plays, but I agree with the posts that say Jaybo shouldn't be judged on the few snaps he got yesterday. Give him a week of practicing with the 1s, let PJ plan the game around Jaybo starting, and we might pull it off.

This defense hasn't always got the three-and-outs, but they have come up with more turnovers than I've seen in a while. They might have the kind of game that makes it possible for us to win without a lot of offense. Sure would like to see what we could do with a healthy Josh, though. At times yesterday we were really looking sharp against a very good defense.

Jahi will be held out of this one. Also Tyler Melton will be back before the bowl game. Most likely he come back against Miami.

Dan, the statement in bold above is basically the best one-sentence summary of UNC this year. They have talent spread out across all teams and regardless of whether the offense, defense, and special teams is on the field, all of them can put up numbers on the board.

Funny thing about UNC is that Butch Davis has recruited a lot of top talent, level of talent that UNC probably has never seen before with Bunting as their coach. On top of that, Butch has been shuffling around the roster... for example, Brendan Tate was just a kickoff return specialist when Bunting was there. Davis started him as a WR and he was able to rack up yards in the air and on the ground with Tate until his season ending injury. Same with their top RB now, Shaun Draughn, he was a safety earlier this year but moved to RB and he has seen a lot of 100+ rushing yard games when he started.

Offensively, I think they will remind us a lot of UVA. They have a QB that is accurate and a handful of receivers that can catch consistently. Their o-line has proven that they can open up holes for Draughn. If our d-line plays like it did against UVA then I can see our young secondary getting hit in the mouth over and over again.

Defensively, all I know is that we better not try to pass much against them. Remember that intercepted throw that Jaybo threw yesterday? UNC would have brought that ball back for a TD right there.

No offense to Jaybo and all you "Jaybo should be #1" fans, I consider him to be a talented backup and well fit for CPJ's offense but I won't have a good feeling for this coming Saturday if Josh can't start. This isn't MSU or Duke we're talking about because neither of these teams could adjust to our offense when we found their weakness.

However it goes I sure hope it goes better than 2004. That was one of the most disappointing "thought we were going to do well" games of the last several years.

UNC is the best offensive team we have played this year IMO. We need to keep there offense off the field to win. If we can do that, I like our chances.
