Chan's offense

Re: Chan\'s offense

I still think that those numbers are not as much about the playcalling as it is the execution. We've fumbled the ball way too much and Reggie has a few picks as well. In addition, Reggie is still learning on the job and has a tendency to overthrow his receivers at times. This habit has cost us some significant yards and points as well.

I also agree with those stating that we have played some of the toughest defenses we will get this season and that will always hurt the numbers (especially with the above things).

Gailey & his staff had us in position to win every game we've played this year. We have two road losses that we could have won even though we didn't always execute well in the field. At some point you've got to look at the players for why we don't win ballgames.

Where did these rankings come from?

I'm pretty sure these stats had not been updated as of this past weekend, which means they are completely worthless.

Rankings after 2 games are pointless, especially when both AU and BYU played USC, one of the best teams in the country.

Our Offensive stats should go way up by the end of the month, especially after we play Vandy.

Re: Chan\'s offense

Why don't we wait until ((at least)) half the season is over before making judgements?

Tech people ((((should)))) know enough about statistics to know better.

I agree the offense hasn't been lights out and it needs to improve. Who doesn't think this? Even Chan himself says this!

The offense wasn't any better last year and we lost our best skill players in Hollings and Watkins. Consider the situation with the results.

Freshman QB + Walk-on RB + No NFL quality WRs + Good OL - Good Defenses = ???.

Do the math. If we don't get better over the season then you got a bone to pick.

Re: Chan\'s offense

You know what? I'm tired of arguing with naysayers on this board. So I'll agree with bee on this one. Here's what we do:
1. Let's fire Chan
2. Let's get rid of all of the offensive coaches (I presume you're ok with keeping the defensive coaches...even though the defense gave up 2 touchdowns in the final minutes of the game).
3. We hire beeware as Head Coach, MsTechAnalysis as Offensive Coordinator, and statelinejacket as Quarterbacks coach.

Now, if you don't produce 223 points (because you have to go at least 1 better than Heisman to prove your collective offensive genius here people...and you don't get time cause you aren't giving Chan time either) in the first game, then you're all fired. PLUS, we get to ***** about your playcalling on this board.

Guys (& gals)...go stick your head in the sand and turn on the sprinkler system. I mean, dadgum (to paraphrase Bobby Bowden), you just played 3 of the best 4 teams that you will play on your schedule. You won one...lost another flat out in mile high elevation...and lost another chiefly because of lack of depth. Get a grip...this team is good and already makes me proud to be a Tech fan. You have the right to your own opinion and as Winston Churchill said, "You have the right to be wrong!". I just wish you wouldn't exercise that 2nd right so vocally and often on this board.

Re: Chan\'s offense

Just an update on defensive standings after 3 games.

FSU #10
Auburn #14
BYU #24

Kind of gives some perspective on our offensive woes so far. I believe we'll get better as the year goes on, partly due to Reggie improving and partly due to the schedule.

Re: Chan\'s offense

One other thing.

Most teams have played a total patsy by now (or two) and will have padded their O stats enough to separate them from us and make us look bad.

Under the conditions we faced coming in we should be happy if we are in the top half.

Re: Chan\'s offense

How can FSU be 63rd in total defense? Their defense has given up a total of 16 points in three games. Those #'s are bogus.

Re: Chan\'s offense

Clemson's D is #43...time for the O to step-up and become an equal partner in this enterprise. I say we post 24-27 points which SHOULD win this one. THWG

Re: Chan\'s offense

BOB is a LB coach at Maryland and not involved in the offense, FYI

Re: Chan\'s offense

I don't think that's true any longer BuzzCzar...
Much discussion earlier on this board when UMD released a coach and moved BO'B over to offense... he was originally hired at UMD as a LB coach... and is now the running backs coach...

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">Yes, the UMD official website shows him as "running backs coach." Presumably this means that his job is to scream, "HOLD ON TO THE DAMN BALL," at practice.

Re: Chan\'s offense

Actually wasn't BOB our RB coach most of his tenure here? I think BOB's a good coach, just a little green yet. He'll be fine and working under Ralph is the best thing that could happen for him. Next time he gets his shot at OC he may be ready.

Re: Chan\'s offense

The OFF isn't great but it is as good as it can get at this point with a new FR QB,a questionable FB corps,a slow tight-end with NO downfield threat, reasonable but definitely not exceptional RBs,and an O line that is good not great(really were overwhelmed ,with the FB, in 2nd half last week).
BUT-- if they don't get hurt, they WILL GET BETTER.NO reason to think not.
BW-I'll put money that the rest of season scoring avg will improve, maybe dramatically

Passing Offense 102nd
Total Offense 112th
Scoring Offense 103rd

Hard to argue with his consistency....

<font size="2" face="Arial, Verdana, Sans-Serif">You and the 2 or 3 (Mstech & others) that are on this agenda against Coach Gailey..Are you getting a little nervous??????? I mean we beat the Number 1 PreSeason favorite to win it all in the sec in Auburn (By the way we last beat them 25 years ago)..Then we Play FSU (One of the top 10 teams in the Country and will in fact probably go on and contend for the National Championship) we play them as CLOSE as we EVER did under Oleary. All without nowhere near the Cupboard full of players we had 2 years ago..You guys are really STRETCHING now..For ANYTHING you can get on him..STATS...SMATS..Lets look at those stats at the end of the year when (You really are stretching to look at them now after we have played 2 of the best defenses in the country) the schedule evens out...Oh no you will have a different story then...I will go as far as saying You come and back up your smack 3 weeks from now on the stats...Yeah your getting nervous alright..since now the whole college football world knows the incredible job Coach Gailey has done so far...even your Buddy Hummer at the Ajc finally wrote a good article today on Gailey....So go ahead and Strrrrrretch some more!!!!!!!!! Your a true GT fan Huh???????

Re: Chan\'s offense

BEEWARE
I'm sure you'd prefer the "vaunted" offensive production that BO'B has taken to UMD...
laugh.gif

84th in the Total O category against the likes of Northern Illinois, Florida State, and the Citadel... the TWERPS are #8 in the country in net punting... now that's something to be proud of...
Oh yeah and I don't see them at the top of any categories in the ACC where TECH is number 1 in rushing D... I can't wait to see the twerps on thursday night next month...
