He developed talent. They weren’t ranked any higher than what we get today. We either struggle now to identify good players or we ruin the good ones once they get here.

This year was especially frustrating because I truly believe our defense was way more talented than the results on the field.

I’d be totally fine with a house cleaning on the defensive staff. If coach Mac can recruit, then keep him and hit the reset button around him.

I don't know that Tenuta was any better than average at developing talent; but the defense definitely had more talent and performed better during the Tenuta years. I think the DL's we had under Gailey were simply more talented coming in the door than we are getting now. I don't know what their "star" ratings were; but they looked more talented. With as much grief as we give Sewak, remember our OL is practicing against our DL. I bet our OL looks awesome in practice because it isn't getting challenged. All that negativity aside, I like the DL recruits we picked up this year and the year before; maybe we will see a welcome change up front if we get the right coaches in place.

Please no Charles Kelly. He won't be any better than leaky Roof. Love what I seen out of Woody's def last night. Would rather lose by being aggressive than dying a slow painful death. My health cannot take anymore of that crap! If we had been aggressive we would probably have won 3 or 4 more games this year. Just my opinion.
Charles Kelly would be wayyyy worse than Roof. Kelly had NFL level talent at all levels and produce 2-star results. Noles fans hated him and he was a big reason why not too many Noles fans cried when Jimbo left. Addition by subtraction with no more Charles Kelly.

Please tell me Charles Kelly is not a candidate. Please tell me this is pure fan speculation and not reality. He was *awful* at FSU. Not just mediocre, AWFUL. He had a roster full of NFL talent and performed like he was coaching 2-star talent. Imagine how bad he will be with actual 2-star talent?

He's a candidate.

The butthurt will be extreme if we hire a DC half as desired as Vad Lee

It'll be like a mini-Greg Schiano

With as much grief as we give Sewak, remember our OL is practicing against our DL. I bet our OL looks awesome in practice because it isn't getting challenged.

except for a few periods each week, mostly for goal line and short yardage, our first two OL don't go against our first two DL during the season. Our OL is going against a scout team of redshirts, walk-ons and sometimes third teamers. Same for the DL. And that's pretty much the way everybody does it. Clemson's top OL isn't going up against Lawrence, Bryant, Wilkins and Ferrell in practice, and Georgia's first and second string OL isn't going up against Thompson, Rochester, Bellamy et al in practice, not during the season. The NFL does it differently because they don't have 105-120 guys out there.
So, yeah, maybe they aren't getting challenged in practice, but that's not because they're facing the first or second team DL.

Woody---Blocking and Tackling fundamentals are the same at each level---so is recruiting in that you still have to sell your program vs others who want the same guy.

Hasn't App St been FBS now for several years? Woody's D was good and highly ranked before and after their FBS status.

Tell Nate Woody that he better blitz or he will be fired immediately

I'm on the Woody hype train. I feel like we know what Kelly's ceiling is and it's probably in the ballpark of Roof's. Try somebody new.

The Mountaineers have been able to punch above their weight. Their performance against Georgia in the season opener this season proved one of the best against the Bulldogs this season. Georgia gained 368 yards and 5.75 yards per play against Appalachian State. Only Notre Dame and Auburn (Nov. 11) allowed fewer yards against the Bulldogs, and only those two teams and Tennessee did better than Appalachian State in yards per play.

In their respective games against the Bulldogs, Appalachian State fared better than Tech against Georgia in total yards, yards per play, third-down efficiency and points, among other categories.
