Charles Perkins

Perkins is such a steal. Isn't there talk about him actually being the best RB in the state?

I'm sorry, but let me point something out to you guys who want to believe in highschool players. I don't doubt that Charles Perkins is a steal. But his Yards Per Carry average is around 5 yards per carry. That's not going to impress me. In highschool, great backs are over 8 yards per carry. Unless Perkins oline is filled with guys who are 180-190lbs, then I'm impressed. If they are just over 200. No, I'm not. Good back, not great. I like this guy a lot for the way he runs, but 5 yards per carry in highschool is pedestrian.

Perkins 1st game YPC was 9.1
Perkins 3rd game YPC was 5.6

Anybody know his second week stats?

Didn't his team go up against one of the best teams in the state in the 1st game this year?

In his first game he averaged less than 5 yards a carry not 9.1. At least that was the box score in the AJC. His second game he was below 4 yards per carry.

no true...against Parkview he averaged 9 ypc...it was 33 carries for 303 yards if I remember correctly. The initial AJC blog had 267 yds, but was adjusted to 303 in the Sunday edition.

Anyway...fun to look at...but meaningless because of all of the different classification, line play, etc. You have to look at video and measurables...both of which he looks very good.

BOR, I recall that he had, I believe, 261 yards rushing the first week vs. Parkview. I'm pretty sure he didn't carry it 60 times.

Keep in mind that he plays in one of the tougher state regions, 7-5A.

I like Perkins b/c he was GT's #1 BB choice. I think he's going to be good for that reason. It's nice to mention the ypc, but like hivered said, it's apples to oranges (different lines, classifications, defenses, etc.).

BOR, I think it's interesting that you don't care about high school rb stats unless it's above 8 ypc. There are just too many variables to consider a kid b/c of a certain number, IMO.

I really don't care about highschool stats at all. And I did say that I like Perkins as a recruit. But being a football fan and seeing a thousand Runningback recruits stats, I can tell you that 5 yards per carry in highschool is pedestrian. There are tons of backs like that at the highschool level.
