They do not sound sold on Josh Nesbitt just yet. Look for those freshmen to make a run at QB. It would be a shame if we moved Burnett from the position he is at. It really seems as though this staff is ready to put it to UGA.

As I thought, the key recruit is the Tallahasee power back.Without that threat this offense is dead.

Said we will probably pass 20-25 times per game, but get more yardage per pass because of the way defenses are forced to defend the run. "Not unusual to see a WR catch a pass with nobody within 20 yards of him".Man that just gets chills up my spine thinking about that kind of scenario.

Don't be surprised if we don't see some of our WR's have 20+ yard averages this year.

I fully expect to see 50 rushes and 20 passes on average this year. I love it.

Right. Good way to sell the system though, and it has to pump up the fan base. I am OK w/ whatever the ratio, as long as the offense is not predictable to D1 defenses.

"[Beating Georgia] is why we're here and the old coaching regime is not."

that's strong. I like it.

Also if Morgan Burnett winds up at QB (highly speculative) then Nesbitt could take his place at safety. Just throwing that out there.

I know the coaches evaluate better than any fan, but I just would hate to see Burnett on the other side of the ball. He has great closing speed and I can't fathom him leaving that safety spot.

If Burnett can rush for 3 TDs a game I'll be happy with some other safety giving up 1 TD a game. Lol.

I do fear somewhat our defensive depth getting raped by the new offense-centric staff, like what used to happen when Fridge was here. He used to cherry pick the best athletes from the D and switch them to O, and George never really prevented him from doing so.

At least that's the word around the campfire.

A great cornerback is the second rarest football player there is.

A great QB is the rarest.

Having said that:
To switch Barnett he can't be a tiny bit better than the others. He must be much better. Because the dropoff from him to the third/fourth CBs is not tiny.

They didn't sound pessimistic on Josh Nesbitt. Just that he's never run the option before. QB selection will depend on decision-making in the option as well as athleticism and throwing skills.

I hope Nesbitt is not turned into another Bilbo. I think Josh will surprise them at what he can do. He seems like the perfect fit for this offense.I will be shocked if he is not the guy.

This is a great read. Thanks for the heads up. I believe Nesbitt will see lots of football at QB if he can master the system. If he can't, I think he will see lots of football at some other position. As for Burnett, this kid is really extraordinary but even he may not catch on to the system quickly enough. We should know after spring practice.

I think you guys are reading way too much into those comments. The point is that until they see guys actually running the offense they don't know what they can really do, and they will put the best players on the field, without worrying about what positions they may have played last year. He's not saying Josh can't run the offense, simply that no one has seen him run it yet. He's also not saying Burnett will play QB, just making the point that if he's the best QB on the team he probably will play that position. Calm down.

We have too much anticipation, too much time on our hands to think about it, and not enough really going on to give us something to talk about.

We either need to take the "Goldilocks" route (i.e. go for a virtual walk while we "let our porridge cool") or get a new hobby. I have an idea for that - crochet. We could all come on here and talk about neat new stitches we found.

Strange. I'm too lazy to dig it up, but this is almost exactly what I posted right after CPJ was hired and all y'all anointed JN the next starting QB of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.:D

Calm down, indeed.

There's was a thrilling thread on the Hive about crochet but it was locked. Someone mentioned something about a new loop procedure performed with a special hook maneuver called the "Hillary."

FWIW the blog misquoted the Hive report, which said, "we won't throw 20-25 times per game."

Navy averaged almost 18 yards per completed pass from 2003-2007. That number would be impossible in a conventional offense and it easily led the NCAA for that 5-year period by a huge margin.

They also led the nation in yards per attempt, averaging 3 YPA more than the New England Patriots did this year.
