First, since most of you are going to be people who posted on my last thread that's still on fire in a bad way, I didn't really phrase the title properly for my idea and it turned out crappy. Didn't mean to say the Georgia game shouldn't be important anymore... moving on.

For those who don't recognize the name, the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff is the game in the Georgia Dome that's nationally televised on the first week of CFB. In 2009 it will be VT against Alabama.

Just curious to see if this might be an interesting thing to do in the upcoming seasons. We'll have an open slot because I heard our games with Ole Miss in 2010 and '11 were pushed back.

I think we have been talking with the ASC to get a game in.

I prefer games at Bobby Dodd. The tailgating is better. The parking is better. I like the outdoors better. Cant think of much about the Dome that I like better.
But if it makes since money wise and puts GT on a national stage then I guess I could suck it up for one game.

I'm all for it. Just so long as it doesn't count as one of our home games.

What if we made it the uga/tech game? Neutral field ala uga/fla. ::Ducks the oncoming beer bottles::

I would be more in favor of an annual game there similiar to the UG/Fla game. Maybe play Clemson every year there or FSU/UM or maybe Auburn or Tenn. Split the revenues by half and get on the national stage maybe halfway through the season. It would also get us used to an artificial enviroment and packed house.

I'm not going unless I get something close to my normal tickets. Sitting 8 miles away from the field in the endzone stunk.

No way Gary Stokian and the Atlanta Sports Council invites Tech to play in that game. The ASC only wants away teams so that they come into Atlanta and spend money. The Hotel&Restaurant Assc. would scream bloody murder. It still burns me up that the ACC will let a sister school come in and play in Tech's backyard and receive all the publicity.I know D Rad doesn't like it.

Yeah, it's the same thing as with bowls. That's why we'll never get to play in the Peach Bowl.

First off, it is not completely true that Tech fans don't buy any local Atlanta hotel rooms, etc. Bring in a fun early season exciting opponent that people can plan for and I for one would do the downtown hotel thing again. It's fun to walk to the game and stumble back and tailgate at the local bars before and after the game.

But most importantly, civic leaders are not stupid. They easily can see where this early season game is headed: DRad will pressure the ACC to stop putting teams in there and UGA will soon be doing the same. If Tech and UGA are not brought on board, the thing will eventually fail (particularly when the two decide to play their game at the same time.)

Additionally, civic leaders aren't stupid about pissing off the Georgia Tech civic leaders, some of whom overlap.

Lastly, who is going to come to the game every year? If Clemson brings 15,000 fans to the Tech game, how many are going to spend money twice in Atlanta (or even a third possibility with the Peach Bowl at the end of the year)? Is it going to be Alabama and Clemson/VPI/FSU every year?

To build up success you first need continuous long term interest by many parties (hence why it's okay to occassionally take Tech in the Peach Bowl). This is a no brainer.

I'd like to see it if its GT vs. LSU. We've got some revenge to put on those bastards.

Based on the eggs that we always lay in that game, I wouldn't count on another invitation anytime soon and can't say that makes me too sad anyway.
