We lost 9-6 in an ACCCG no one wants to remember. Many outsiders could care less about our bowl streak. USC has been "held down" because they play in the "toughest conference in America." PLus they are coached by the GREAT Spurrier.
Now, before you start flaming, this isn't my view or opinion. I agree with you in that GT would be a much better experience than USC. That being said, I don't think most outsiders feel the same way. The evidence is in the recruits he's stealing from us (assuming Crenshaw does indeed leave).
I see your point. It may be true that an "outsider" may not connect the dots, but on the surface, we've done much better job just in the last 20 years than USCe has. The ACCCG is what it is... an ACCCG. It's more than USCe has ever done, and it's proof that we can get there. USCe has never won an SEC divisional title in the 16 years they've been included. Toss in the MNC in 1990 and the ACC Championship in 1998 and you see the trend emerge.
Then you factor in that Spurrier isn't getting it done at USCe and is very likely to bolt after another year or two and retire to play golf. All the while we have one of the best up and coming college coaches around, square in his prime, and he's already turning heads with our play this fall.
Maybe it's me, but if I'm comitting my next 5 years to a place, these are things I already know.
