Chris Hatcher or Paul Johnson?

The spread option is basically the Run 'n Shoot offense coupled with an option based running game. You can adjust its style to be more pass or run orient based on your personnel. At their core, the Texas Tech and WVU offenses are the same with each representing the extreme end of spectrum.

Hatcher's offense at VSU was very much pass orient. This year at GSU he had a mobile QB and good OL so he adjusted to a more run oriented attack and GSU was near the top of D-IAA in rushing and near the bottom in passing. The spread option has alot of variety.

I was under the impression that GSU was running standard trip-option this year, not spread option.

Hatcher has no D1 experience and no experience recruiting to high academic standards. His name should not even be in consideration.

Paul Johnson has both of these and experience recruiting in Georgia (as does Hatcher). The Naval Academy requirements are very similar to GT therefore he understands the GT limitations on recruiting.
Rad wants a dynamic offense who can sell tickets. The triple option with no passing wont do a thing for that. You can add running to a Spread offense but for a Paul Johnson to add passing to the Triple option is a stretch. No to Johnson

Sweet link JTS, thanks.

edit: yeah, umm, wow, that's verbatim the West Virginia offense. If he's got the ability to go from that to Texas Tech and back in the same scheme, I have a new favorite candidate. To the point where I'm emailing Dan Radikovich the link, right now. Hooooweeeee.

edit2: oh man, there's a hilarious trick play in that video at about 5:30, where the QB lines up in shotgun, looks left, signals an audible, looks right and while he's signaling the audible to the other side, the center direct snaps to the running back who dives forward for the first down. Hahaha. Too rich.

Holy crap, I just watched that video. I think we're on the same page here beej. I would love to see that WVU offense run with Nesbitt and Dwyer. It also looks like they employed a two QB system at GSU as well. I am really hoping Chris Hatcher gets the job now.

Could you imagine that offense with a Tenuta defense? Alas, I think the only way Tenuta stays is if he is working under PJ. GSU averaged 36 PPG. If we would have scored 36 points in every game we would have been 12-0 this season.

What amazes me the most is that he was able to implement his scheme successfully in the short year he was there and completely turned the team around. 3-8 in 2006 to 7-4 in 2007 and a field goal away from a conference championship.

I have no idea what "Hatch Attack" consists of, but if it's the old Kentucky offense, it's a less interesting fun-and-gun.

It consists of take what you have, and use it. He used his QB at VSU MUCH different than he used his GSU QB. Here at GSU, we have a fast mobile QB, and an NFL style QB. Both were nicely utilized.

They pretty much run everything out of shotgun.

Watch - GSU vs. Applachian St. Highlights

This was against the 2 time defending D-IAA Champs that beat Michigan earlier in the year.

Heyyyyyy, I was there  But yea, pretty much everything came out of shotgun. Main exception was FB/HB runs.

That makes two of us. I DID NOT expect him to be "7-4 in 2007 and a field goal away from a conference championship". But he did it. Does GT have anything similar to GSU? Oh yeaaaaaaa Josh Nesbitt.....hes ALOT like Jayson Foster. But thats just my opinion.

(Im sure you all know.....but Jayson Foster=GSU QB)

Man, I love these Chris Hatcher discussions, really getting to throw my piece in there
