I don't know to much about Hatcher, but he seems like an intriguing candidate. If it is even going to happen. Best case scenario, I think, is for an NFL job to open up and for CCG to take it. Nice and clean-like.

Anyway, here is some information that I scraped up. If anyone has any thoughts about Chris Hatcher, please share them.

While we are on the GSU topic, why have I not seen Giff Smith thrown around as a candidate for this job? To me, it seems unlikely, given the concept that if someone were to be promoted from within, then it would be Jon Tenuta. However, I think Giff seems like an intriguing candidate, as well.

Promoting Giff is an interesting thought, it would make for a popular transition with the players. He could be promoted for a much less costly salary than a newhire. He could be give like a 3 year deal to see how it goes and if things work out it could be extended with a raise. I do think he would need to hire a offensive minded coordinator to handle the offense perhaps Joker Phillips.

Don't we already have an offensive coordinator? If Gailey were to be let go, what would happen to Bond? Would it be completely up to the new hire/promotion?

If Gailey were to be let go, then whoever ends up in charge could do whatever they wanted to with the staff. Don't think otherwise.

The best chance we have at retaining some of the staff is to promote Tenuta, which may or may not include Bond.

Whoever is HC next year would be making a huge mistake if they did not retain Giff Smith.

Tenuta and the other assistant coaches have a contract with GT that is separate from Gailey's, but I'm pretty sure Tenuta's is a multi-year contract, unusual for an assistant coach. They're almost always a one-year contract. Re-hiring Bond would be up to a (hypothetical) new coach. Retaining Tenuta would be a no-brainer, but if for some reason the FNG wanted to dump JT, GT would have to buy out his contract.

You can wave goodbye to the current staff if we change HFC's. Expect 1-3 holdovers initially to help transition the recruiting, but they are typically gone in a year or less.

That includes our DC. The 2-year contract is just a way of getting him a reasonable separation package if CCG is replaced.

No new HFC wants holdovers. To a new HFC, a holdover is someone that is liable to get in the way of the new coach's vision and liable to spread poison behind the new coach's back.

Tenuta is a no-brainer... to be replaced. If he does not precisely and completely embody the new guy's defensive concepts... he's vapor. This is magnified if we hire a former DC at some level, which I think we will.

I would expect Bond, Giff, Joe, and Liam to get interviews, something like that group, and not necessarily for a coordinator level slot.

I mean a real offensive coordinator someone who scores and develops quarterbacks i.e. Joker Phillips

I had this conversation with a prominent Alumni. He said after Bud Carson was hired the AA tried forced the staff onto him and it just didn't work. The AA has learned from their mistake and will never do that again. He said if there is a coaching change all the staff will be fired and the new coach then can choose to rehire any of the old staff if he wants to.

We would have to pay him more, then people tend to be willing to make changes

Hatcher isn't going to that toilet bowl we all know as the ATL......He lives in God's country.....South Georgia.

You realize that was 40 years, 4 AD's, and 7 head coaches ago, right? Anyone that might actually have been around to learn that lesson is retired by now.

Do you even think before you type some of this ****?

I'd like to see Chris Hatcher affiliated with GT, but he is a young pup in the grand scheme of things. As a 34 year old, I like to consider myself young, anyway...

We grew up down the street from one another. Went to competing high schools, in the same class. Played backyard football together from time to time. He had a great cannon and was obviously well-schooled. His dad was a long-time high-school coach in Macon. I haven't seen Chris since he began his head-coaching career. I follow his successes. He's a good guy and by all accounts a good coach.

Hatcher won't leave GSU to be a coordinator at Tech. He went to my HS in macon, though much older than I, but I know his younger sisters as they went to my HS as well, one of which said he was offered the FSU job but didn't take it because he considered it to be a "lateral" move. Either nobody heard about it because it was merely a verbal offer or she is full of it, but either way I would be willing to roll the dice on a guy that could definitely recruit the state of GA and has always put points on the board and has a history of developing QB's. The only way we will ever get the next great coach is to pull one out of the rough.

I consider a long time assistant coach at the Div1A level to be more of a risk than a proven winner, even if at the lower levels. Some people are winners, period.

Lord, I went to MDS, too. Only had 67 in my class (1973). How many of us are out there? Incidentally, I sat behind Coach Garvin at a GSU game- he coached Hatcher and some of his uncles.

Had around 90 or so in mine (1999), played briefly with Keith Hatcher, I was a FR he was a SR at QB and CB (Chris' cousin and default 2ndary coach wherever he goes).

I had Garvin in HS Algebra...I hear he use to punt on 3rd down! Now that is some serious Gailey ball!

I was also on this team...

Perhaps one of the greatest GISA State Championship games of all time, too bad we got shafted. Tatnall's QB admitted to me while we were at GT that he fumbled on purpose, with a smirk on his face no less.

Maybe my bias (went to MDS & VSU before I transferred to Tech) is why I'm so adamant about Chris Hatcher.

Garvin won Class C state championship in 73. Won the Class A state championship in 74. We played public schools back then.... they would kill us in roundball but we would stomp 'em in football. Hatcher is a rising star and I can see why you are a fan. Sister still lives in Macon- I can't go back... too many charges still pending :laugher:

You realize that the AD isn't the only one in the AA? In fact, this alumni is involved with the AA.

God, you're such a jackass. Ignored.
