So coaching does having something to do with it and having a good QB. Of course playing in the AAC has something to do with it.
 
I feel like the AAC is right on the borderline of teams you can make fair comparisons to with other P5 programs. Precisely because, as you said, they play in the AAC. The route they take to reach 9 wins (or 12, in a non-apocalyptic season) seems very different from the path to the same total in the ACC. Plus, the transition, etc.

UNC would be up 28-0 on Cincinnati right now. These teams suck
 
To be honest, I think rather than pointing at Cincy's recruiting classes and performance to highlight the importance of coaching, you could point at UGA's recruiting classes and performance to highlight the importance of coaching.

Irrespective of those recruiting rankings Cincinnati’s players are obviously much, much bigger and more athletic than ours particularly along the lines of scrimmage. There’s no excuse for that. Georgia Tech has a more football rich tradition and there is way too much local HS talent. Thank goodness we have some coaches that like to recruit now.

Finding players to fit your system is a part of coaching at the collegiate level. Some would say it's the most important part. Cincinnati pulling classes around the 50's is superb for a group of 5 team. Look at the rankings of the opponents they actually play. I looked at their schedule this year and you have Tulsa, Houston, South Florida, Army, Memphis, and ECU. To go undefeated is not bad but nothing crazy either. A depleted dwag team would by far be their best win. With that being said go Bearcats.

Cincinnati would beat Syracuse, Pittsburgh, NCST, Boston College or us silly. Don’t kid yourself.

Yesteryear GT was a football power and Ross and O’Leary proved that you can still recruit at GT. But I still would like to see some influential alumni put pressure on the administration to create a place for athletes who are college material but maybe not chemical engineers. No reason for Cincinnati to have better football players than GT given GT’s football tradition. Of course Cincinnati is not in the middle of transitioning from the triple option.

This is an old canard. It is not 1980 anymore. There are a ZILLION non engineering and non science majors available at Tech these days.

Having a better head coach has a metric öööö ton to do with it.
 
Cincinnati went 4-8 in Fickell's first year. They've been pretty strong since, but it's pretty customary for coaches to need a little time to build a program the way they want to.

Fickell also went 6-7 in one year as interim HC at Ohio State with way more talent than what he was right now.

I watched the game and would say this assumption is false. UGA looked physically like a bigger mismatch for Cincy than they did against us when CPJ was coaching. I think that physical mismatch was why Cincy's offense couldn't do anything in the later part of the game. You could see in the first couple of series in the game what was likely to happen in the second half.

H.S. GPA is best predictor of success. I imagine 3.2-3.5+ is our sweet spot. Average football SAT is still probably 1060ish. These folks can do ok and graduate. Plenty of other majors now e.g. daughter is looking at GT for international relations, policy. I can’t recall recent complaints from coaches.
Brutal though for non-athlete admissions, 1400s+, 3.9+, 10+ AP classes.
