Agree, but that comment was an afterthought. The real news is CPL is the real deal and has 3 more years (hopefully) left to perform on the Flats.Good for him and Tech! As for his rating, it is irrelevant. With the exception of your top percentage of talent (5*), the ratings have long been a poor prognosticator of who will perform well in college. I once had a college coach tell me he could call the rating services and get stars assigned.

The experienced player, Jaylon King, had a season ending injury against Pitt. King is a good player and was having a very good year as well.He was one of the few true freshmen being talked up preseason, then basically took the job from an experienced player midseason. Congrats indeed. His future is bright.
Exactly. Competition is king. Effort based. If you look back, we've recruited well at DB and have also taken in a few good transfers at the position. We should be good there for the foreseeable future. Now, to replenish LB and get the DL to make the next step up. If we can do this, we can be pretty decent on D in 2023. That's the group that seemed to improve game by game this past season. Their +/- was very good.
Even going back to CPJ we did well at DB.Exactly. Competition is king. Effort based.
After a certain personnel change was made...I really noticed his name getting called a lot starting midseason ...
Wesley Walker, Zamari WaltonEven going back to CPJ we did well at DB.
2018: Jaylon King and Juanyeh Thomas (and actually Charlie Thomas)
2017: Tariq Carpenter, Trey Swilling, and Kaleb Oliver
You're right that ratings are irrelevant once you get to college but the HS recruiting rankings have a lot of data and camps behind them, not just who has offers from which schools.Good for him and Tech! Both safeties that finished the year starting did not begin the year starting. Only one of the original safeties was lost due to injury. Powell-Lee and Brooks were both fantastic in the 2nd half. The experienced player, Jaylon King, had a season ending injury against Pitt. King is a good player and was having a very good year as well.
We actually didn’t have any starters when we began the season. Starters were first introduced in the Pitt game. Both safeties that finished the year starting did not begin the year starting.
