Clemson EMBARASSED in Blacksburg!!

What does this tell us about us now?? I will let you guys answer this.

On the one hand, we look bad for getting butchered by Clemson, on the other, we look good for butchring VT.

I'm sure it's happened, but I can't recall a time that Tech has had to play two ACC teams in five days and certainly not two games with this much significance.

I can recall one. Joe Burns ran out of bounds to give Maryland enough time to kick a FG to win. On Thursday. On national TV. Maryland went on to share the ACC Championship that year, when everyone had us pegged to do it.

good grief, hiveredtech.. get a life. Pick up any newspaper editorial about the ACC this year and they all write about the conference being down, the polls, are the only semblance of science we have to rank teams whether you, me, or anyone choose to like them or not. Somehow, you want to argue and infer the ACC is strong this year and not down, because the polls are wrong??? Yep, the whole country is against the ACC as are the stats and newspapers... sigh. All those undefeated and one loss ACC teams should be in the top 10. I agree. So, they must be against us. :laugher:

Why do you choose to make this an argument or battle.. it simply is what is. ..and to discuss the obvious, which is already quite and known and written about (see prior links in this thread) is taboo to you. Keep talking polls, though, as it is entertaining.

You know what, who cares IF the ACC is down or not. As long as GT is playing well and sitting atop of the Coastal with their destiny in their own hands, then things are going pretty well. A win against Miami with further solidify things, and a loss would definitely hurt, but not put an end to the season and potential accomplishments that are ahead.

When it gets down to it, that's all I really care about. Hell, I'll be satisfied if GT is the ONLY ACC team in the Top 25. If the rest of the conference IS down then that just makes things a little easier for GT. Although it's bull, because there are enough quailty teams in the ACC to ensure that if you don't come to play on Saturday (or Thursday night) you could leave the field with an 'L'.

We will only know how 'down' the ACC is after the bowls are done. It turns out that we were down last year, and nobody knew it until the end.

Hiveredtech,
We all have learned to ignore Geetee. He obviously has a chip on his shoulder. Some people are just born to be negative, nothing we can do to change that. Don't let him bother you. You bring great information to this board, and I do not want an ignorant person to cause you to waste your time.

The ACC Has Really Stunk ...

it up against non-conference competition this year. Losses to powers like Western Michigan and Akron, along with UNC's amazing 2 point comeback victory over Furman have done NOTHING to prove we are a tough conference. That is as objective as it gets gentlemen, and it is at least partially reflected in the polls. Why can't we just admit it's a down year and move on. Heck, when we win the ACC do you really think that two or three years from now we are going to ashamed that the first of three consecutive championships was in a down year?

down year is definitely true for most of the conference, but I think its an above average year for GT/Clemson and definitely Wake.

I do believe that outside of UNC/Duke, the ACC could give all but the top tier (OSU & Michigan and just a couple others this year) a good game assuming the teams show up.

Well I guess I should chime back in since I started this whole mess. I wasn't trying to proclaim the ACC the best conference in America, it's just not as bad as GeeTee and apparently every sports editor are saying. I choose to watch the games myself and come to my own opinions instead of using others. I've seen really good football out of GT, Clemson, VT, BC, and even WF, NCSU, & Maryland at times this year. Certainly part of the Thursday game was the short turn around for Clemson, but VT came out ready to go and played a helluva game.

I think we're the 3rd best conference this year, and I think our bowl W/L percentage will show it. But the media slant due to VT, Miami, and FSU being down will definitely prevent us from pulling 2 BCS bowls, which means there will be a large number of very good teams fighting to keep off the blue turf.

beej67,
really dreads the blue turf

First of all, the ACC is down this year, especially at the start of the year. UVA, UNC, NC State and Duke have all had horrible non-conference losses anyway you slice it. To be fair, NC State's came before they realized to start their freshmen quarterback and they are a much better team now.

However, the drop in perception almost completely happened because of the fortunes of FSU, Miami and VPI. Consider this: that according to Sagarin, the Big 12 is worse than the ACC. But the Big 12 isn't perceived as being down because Texas will win out the conference, which means they're awesome no matter the competition and another traditional power, Nebraska, is doing fairly well for itself. Never mind just how putrid Colorado is and how Colorado then came in to beat Texas Tech. Texas and Nebraska are doing fairly well, except for beatdowns from tOSU and USC, and so the conference must be doing fine.

In the end, hopefully the conference will salvage their reputations some if both GT and Clemson have decisive victories against their rivals and if the ACC wins the majority of their piss-poor bowl games. A huge coup would be for FSU to beat Florida or even play them close, but I'm not sure I see that happening.

Let us not talk about such hypothetical happenings.:D
