Clemsons win set us back 15 years....

Not sure about that. Watson is a once in a generation player. He's fantastic. Thank God that Bobo and uga wanted Ramsey to punt instead of taking Watson.

I saw something that Watson lost 3 games as a starter. One of those has to be the game against us where he tore his acl.

Correct - 3 losses were us in 2014, Bama in 2015, and Pitt in 2016

Did our blocking scheme tear Watson's acl?

OP makes some good points.

I remember when Texas won in 2005 and set OU back 15 years.
Or when OSU won in 2014 and set Michigan back 15 years.
And let's not forget how Auburn won in 2010 and set Alabama back 15 years. I mean, if Auburn hadn't won in 2010, Bama easily could have won last night.

It is very much likely that the ACC will pass the SEC permanently based on major population growth in NC and VA, which we own, badly outstripping Alabama/Miss/La/Ark growth.

Key is the continued dominance of Clem in the state of SC and FSU over UF. These seem to be very likely. Louisville is not allowed to lay eggs anymore, and UNC and VT should be forbidden from scheduling SEC teams based on a pitiful track record. Wake does a better job, sheesh.

Unfortunately the kingpin is us. Us holding our own vs the cesspool is the very reason this conversation is even occurring. The most important regular season game for the ACC is played Thanksgiving weekend in Nov. The ACC needs to do everything they can to help us win that game.

Go Gatas.

Never, never, never be afraid of playing Clemson. Tech has ended the dreams of so many undefeated Clemson teams over the years. If there is one high ranking team I look forward to playing, it's Clemson. Besides, I think we are Clemson's biggest ACC rival, and they are ours. Good rivalries help a team. If we can beat Tenn next year, then our game with Clemson if early in the season will be a big event. Beat Clemson, and we jump big time in the polls. I can't wait to head up I-85 next year.

Um, winning there is hard.

Um, winning there is hard.

No doubt, but we won in a hard place - Blacksburg - this year with essentially next year's team (minus Marcus Marshall). Gotta be optimistic about that, not too mention "intangible" factor of wanting to beat the defending champs.

15 years in what, exactly?

P5 teams with NCs since Georgia:

GT (1 - 90)
Clemson (2 - 81, 16)
Miami (5 - 83,87,89,91,01)
FSU (3 - 93, 99, 13)
UF (3 - 96,06,08)
Bama (5 - 92,09,11,12,15)
Auburn (1 - 10)
Tennessee (1 - 98)
LSU (2 - 03,07)

Every P5 school bordering the state of Georgia has won a NC more recently than them, save Vandy, South Carolina, and the Tobacco Road Four.

(modified [added LSU since they are SEC])

So most of those teams have won multiple times since UGA last one. Good info to have when talking to a mutt.

LSU adder hurts the argument, other adder of sheer number is gold.

This myth is being busted. They just happened to be good for awhile there in the 2000s so won a lot of home games against a down Coastal. They've been a miserable home team in recent history. In fact I believe they had a 5 or 6 game home losing streak to P5 teams going sometime in the last few seasons. I admittedly used to make this comment as well, but it's really not true. They also aren't selling out games anymore.

Hell think of the times we played them there recently...
2006: Beat that ass.
2008: Second or third game under CPJ and lost by 3 due to a penalty-filled final FG drive and 3 fumbles (two unforced IIRC) for a -3 turnover differential.
2010: We were beating that ass and then decided to throw it inside the 10 and Nesbitt broke his arm. We were destroying them up to that point. And still only lost b/c of a late KO return for a TD.
2012: Lost in OT after leading by 3 with 17 seconds to go.
2014: Won. Score looked closer than it was - their only points in the 2nd half came on their QB recovering their RBs fumble and running 30 yards with it.
2016: Beat that ass.

So we crushed them twice, won a close one, and lost three one-possession games (one in OT). We've had more quality performances in Blacksburg under CPJ than any other city outside of Atlanta except maybe Athens. Lane stadium is loud only when they are both winning and the PA tells them to be with their piped in Metallica.

Thats correct. They were a young, loud, rowdy fanbase 20 years ago. Now their crowd is biased older like established fanbases such as the rest of the ACC.
