CNW rumored to go to

Has Collins ever run a 3-4 defense? Of all the assistants not specific to the 3O, Woody would seem to be the oddest to keep.

Doesn’t make sense for him to stay. GC brings his own juice.
Agreed. I think it’s a good opportunity for him to move on vs being micromanaged by a head coach who really knows a thing or two about defense and has a different philosophy on scheme. Could be good for our locker room for CGC to get his own guy in there. It’s a different situation than what CNW signed on for now and Army may be something more similar to what he had here. This could be a good mutual thing.

I like CNW too. But you can't have a 4-3 coach and a 3-4 DC under him.

Well, maybe you can until you have the personnel to run a 4-3 :dunno:; but like you I doubt that happens. I bet CGC brings his OC and DC from Temple after the bowl game.

what was wrong with Army's defense? They were pretty good i thought? I guess they lost their DC. no i'm not going to google it, that's what you do for me. if you don't i'm sure your mom will. she owns me

Why am I all alone on this? Nate Woody was a freaking horrible hire. We tried this 3-4 bullshit once before, did we not? We can't recruit the size for 3-4. We all know that. So, no beef with the guy, but spare me. Thanks.

I just thought it was kinda meh. Perhaps he would've been a slight improvement long term, but I feel like we've been through this same song and dance every time PJ hired a new DC. We see some things that appear to be marginally better and begin projecting year-to-year improvement which never materializes.

You weren't alone. I questioned it due to his lack of P5 background, not so much the scheme. But remember, the bar had been set very low by CTR and by the previous DC's. There seemed to be no pressure to improve or to be accountable for the defense. If CNW represented even a modest improvement in defensive performance, I was for that. I think we can say that he did bring about modest improvement--especially against lesser opponents. I hope he lands in a good situation.

I was wondering what would happen to Woody. Probably CGC told him that he wouldn't be retained and to look around. He seemed to be an ok guy, glad he got a position.

CNW runs a different 3-4 than CAG. Also, players for the scheme wasn't the primary reason why CAG wasn't successful.
