his radio show last night. Ole Miss. had called Drad and they are trying to back out of the 2 game series we have scheduled with them in 2010 & 2011...I guess Ole Miss. and Houston Nutt want no part of P.J.

UT is the only Sec team that regularly schedules good non-conference opponents. Ugag had scheduled Az. State several years back, BEFORE Dennis Erickson arrived, no way they would have scheduled AZ. State once Erickson got there last year.

I hope Drad is pursuing UT for 2010 & 2011... Or maybe a good Big 12 or Big 10 opponent..

Thoughts?

Drad is going to do what's smart, which is don't schedule a SECOND good OOC opponent ON TOP OF Georgia, because a SECOND good OOC opponent does our team no good.

He might as well beat all the players in the face with a ball pean hammer as actively seek a second ranked OOC opponent. All you need, at most, is one good OOC opponent to make the NC game.

I hope like hell he's seeking a Big 10 or Big 12 opponent ... but not a good one. He wants a home and home with Northwestern. Or crap, lets get into the soft gooey middle of the Big East, like UNC did.

UNC-Rutgers was a genius scheduling job by the UNC AD. National exposure beating a team up who sucks, but people in the north east think doesn't suck. That's PERFECT scheduling.

I am confused, enlighten me...
GT is Trying to back out of the series or Ole Miss is trying to back out?

Ole Miss is trying to delay our home and home, now that we have a good coach, and they just hired a coach who is also good and doesn't want to play us, because playing good opponents OOC is entirely dumb.

I think you are wrong on this....I guarrantee you that if there is 2 unbeaten teams from the other big 4 conferences (from a combination of either Pac 10, Big 10, Sec, or Big 12 coming up with 2 unbeatens) and then you have an unbeaten team from the ACC .. The ACC team will not be in the BCS championship game... We might not even get an unbeaten ACC team in if there was only one other unbeaten team from the other big 4 conferences and a solid 1 loss team from the other 4 conferences. The ACC has to step up big in OOC games and in the Orange Bowl game over the next couple of years, to get back any respect, hasn't happened the last few years.

No way you tell me we get a team in this year IF, there are 2 other unbeatens from the other conferences...

Actually, if TECH were undefeated this year and SEC champ, UGa, had one loss, then TECH would probably be chosen unless the other 2 undefeateds were named USC and OU.

P.J. said Ole Miss. is backing out...

The issue is dollars. Can we get dollars for this? We need money. As long as they are willing to pay to break the contract, I say let 'em and schedule another game.

NOW... if they end up in the Dome game those years, I'l be really, really PO'd.

That is a lot of IF's and as a GT fan I'm for being sure in a given year...we need another good OOC game each year in order to ensure if we were unbeaten that we would get into that BCS Champ. game.

I think, given the bad Rep. recently the ACC has brought on itself, that all the ACC team's need to look at getting more good OOC games...And then win those games....Just by us beating a Ugag team in a given year and going unbeaten may still not be enough to get into the BCS champ. game...I like the play anyone, anywhere attitude and it may take that in the next couple of years for an ACC team to get into THE GAME..

Hopefully we start beating Ugag regularly along with Fsu getting back to beating UF regularly ..This will go a long way in helping the ACC , along with the ACC winning The Orange Bowl more often...

But for now, I would like to see us add another quality OOC game like a UT or a Texas or a Michigan...

Doesn't Houston Nutt coach at Ole Miss? Good coach?

Damn, if you think HDN is a good coach you have been rooting for Tech too long.

The argument you guys have for booking a heavy-weight opponent is that ACC is bad right now. If we book one, it will be for at least 4-5 years down the line, we don't know how ACC will be doing then.

IMHO: If you are a good tam who in the Hell cares who you play? I could care less if GT played the top 12 teams in the nation in a 12 game schedule. Good teams find ways to win every game and let God sort out the rest.
Screw the whole "chess match" approach to weaseling your schedule into a BCS game.

conferences will be going to 9games soon b/c of TV money and that will solve the problem

but it is expected that teams would flee our future schedule b/c of our offense.

If we win out in the ACC and beat uga we will be playing in the nat champ game UNLESS THERE ARE TWO OTHER UNDEFEATED TEAMS.

So not a big deal to me

Find a game in a state where there are a lot of good recruits and you can play home and home and easily win the game. SMU, Pittburgh, or San Diego State would all fit the bill.

Here is another potential scheduling idea laced in the theme of UGA and GT both hating the Labor Day game sponsored by Chick Fil A. Play that game, every year, in the Georgia Dome on Labor Day Weekend with half of the Dome yellow and half of it Red. It would keep the other schools out of our back yard, there would be enough pressure that the Atlanta Sports Council would have to succumb, we could probably leverag that into an extra home game and the home town sponsors of Home Depot and CFA could market this locally all summer.

Did I fail to remind that UGA tends to have their share of off season troubles and typically have a number of suspensions for game 1?

This would be non-traditional but could create exposure for us that we do not typically see and keeps VT, Alabama and Clemson out of our back yard.

ding ding ding: We have a winner!

I don't know why some of y'all are chicken.

Miami and FSU (Back in the late 70's & early 80's before they had ANY history or tradition in being powerhouse football programs) scheduled very agressively power house teams..I mean they played 7 or 8 biggies every year and Bobby bowden said, they took a few lumps early on but, after a few years they started winning those games and thus, became the 2 most dominant teams in a 20 year span in college football. Their motto, play anyone anywhere...

We need that attitude now, and I bet if you asked your Oline coach/friend Big John, he would feel that way also...

I used to feel (When the ACC 1st expanded and I thought with Fsu, Miami and VT that we would be the most dominant conference) there was no need to schedule anymore good OOC games, But, that has changed over the last couple of years, with the ACC being down. Now we need to add at least one more top program on our schedule i.e. UT, Michigan, Texas to beef up our schedule..

This is no time to be a chicken !!

To be the best you gotta beat the best, and you can only beat them if you play them. Ole Miss. is a bunch of vaginas for wanting to back out.

Once again, which team can we schedule that will prepare us most to play and beat Georgia? That's the team I am in favor of scheduling.

Backing out of the games and moving them back to a later date are two different things. Army backed out.. OleMiss is wanting to delay the playing of the games. This may lead to them backing out later on, but as of now they still want to play the home and home series. Will be interesting to see how this develops.
