College Football “Execs” Want Shorter Games

I remember when not every game was televised, and non-TV games were noticeably shorter. We would be excited to go to the non-TV games.
 
The execs are just pissed ratings continue to plummet. Maybe if there weren’t so many Alabama 64, Alcorn State 0 games every damn weekend their product wouldn’t suck so bad.
 
Sure let's make a game shorter that is a billion dollar industry that TV made longer with replays and ads ,incompent refs,review every TD,and games that don't start on time .The next thing they would want is make all games pay per view no free football on TV .Let's bleed this sport for all its worth.Lets pay a thousand dollars for season tickets for game to end in less than a hour.Baseball and Nascar are the sports that take too long.My opinion GO JACKETS!!

That's crazy talk. Any kickoff out of bounds, including through the endzone on the fly, goes out to the 50. Any ball landing in the field of play, including the endzone must be returned.
 
Football needs to incorporate some elements of hockey. During punts, player shift changes need to take place. Five guys cover the punt and six guys shift/ One guy receives the punt/four guys block/six guys shift. The clock keeps running on change of possession. Prior to snap the other five guys shift on O/D. So no TV timeouts after punts.

Give it time before they start AI’ing the commercials to take place on the field during the game. Player has a grass stain on his britches? Some guy with a 1950s haircut appears next to him and says “Only Tide will get out grass stains like that!” Quartback gets sacked? AI Dude appears to offer him a Goody’s.

Collins on the sideline of his next coaching job losing 53-7 in the first quarter? AI Frank Thomas is there to offer him some Neutragenix and promises he won’t be a pussy after taking 13 bottles of it.

It's not about the time it takes. This overtime format just sucks. Overtime would have put the 1990 MNC at risk more than the tie did. Granted, it could have been an undefeated season, but would you risk that on this format?
 
Why do they want shorter games?

What are the factors (game factors and non-game factors) causing them to go longer?

What time impact does each factor have on the game?

Instead, we get these four proposals:
  • Prohibit consecutive timeouts (how often does this really happen?)
  • No untimed down at end of 1Q/3Q (sure, why not?)
  • Clock runs after 1st down except inside of 2 mins in a half (NFL rule)
  • Clock runs on incompletions once ball is spotted (huh?)
Pate nails it. They broke it with the advertising, reviews and halftimes. Fix those.

Things to do / account for:

Have to adjust my totals betting strategy.

Also might mean longer commercial breaks as they’re still going to want their ad time! More food and drink intake possible, in-game.

Also i wont have to rush thru bathroom time, meaning fewer dribbles, less laundry time for my pants..perhaps saving on laundry detergent. Money that i can then put back into food and drink (see above)

Lastly, less rushing thru bathroom time (see above) means i can wear the light-colored slacks again! So maybe some savings on clothing purchases?
