"New coach, new era, killer defensive line. Paul Johnson might be getting all the headlines bringing his running attack to Georgia Tech, but it's Vance Walker, Michael Johnson, and the defensive front that'll freak everyone out in the ACC. Check out the CFN Georgia Tech Preview."

Probably one of the best 3rd party overviews I've read this offseason. They even spelled our player's names right!

I want to see more of this:
- Sacks: Georgia Tech 47 for 302 yards – Opponents 22 for 166 yards

And less of this:
- Penalties: Georgia Tech 90 for 771 yards – Opponents 76 for 653 yards

- Fourth down conversions: Opponents 10 of 13 (77%) – Georgia Tech 7 of 17 (41%)

771 yards in penalties is a pretty good sign that our coaches sucked.

Or our players weren't self disciplined, you can hang a lot on chan and the coaches but not offsides, holding, pass interfence and so on.

We need to stop babying these kids and hold them accountable as well.

Many Tech Lettermen on here have taken plenty abuse from our fan base when we screwed up and I think we all have managed to turn out pretty well.

We racked up a lot of penalty yards early in the season with illegal formations.

Maybe I just stopped noticing by the end of the year.

...Behind [Nesbitt] is a redshirt freshman walkon...

Huh? What about redshirt senior Calvin Booker??

Not to mention the X factor of Jaybo Shaw - only the nation's 10th-best dual-threat quarterback coming out of high school.

I mean its not like there's just Nesbitt and some kid from down the street back there taking snaps.

And one more thing. The days of us giving up an embarassing 10 out of 13 4th down conversions is so over. It may be a while before we see another blitz on 4th and inches. Thankfully.

FYI....Bryce Dykes is #2 on the depth chart. Calvin (Booker that is) does not have the athletic ability to excel in this offense. He is a "drop-back" guy. His role this year will be to mentor the young guys, be a leader in the locker room, and play in emergency/mop up duty. Just my humble opinion.

Understood. I guess my point is that when you have a competent RS SR quarterback (Booker) at #3 who can direct the team (if not to CPJ's exact specifications - in a simplified playbook scenario), the fact that a RS FR is at #2 isn't necessarily as bad as it looks.

Don't count out Tevin Washington for PT at QB. He's a beast as well, and has every bit the upside Jaybo does.

For those that attended spring practice, is there a chance that Booker might run a "2 minute drill" package?

771 yards in penalties is a pretty good sign that our coaches sucked.

With all due respect the 9.1 yards per game we lost in penalties were partially offset by D. Brooks who helped us get 3.8 of that back.

The momentum changes of penalties, however, seem to be far more important than the yards themselves.

This is probably the best preview I've seen yet. Nothing ground breaking, but they seemed to cover all the key points.

We lost 2 games last year on dumb penalties at crucial times. Not just yards, not just momentum, like, lost-the-whole-game-because-of-a-penalty.
