And one more thing. The days of us giving up an embarassing 10 out of 13 4th down conversions is so over. It may be a while before we see another blitz on 4th and inches. Thankfully.

10/13 on 4'th down really doesn't tell much about a defense. If we had a lot of 4'th and inches plays that were converted, that's not that unusual. Now if that were 3'rd down percentage, then it would mean a whole lot. Blitzing on 4'th and inches makes a whole lot of sense to me.

Our defense under Tenuta was consistently top 25 in the nation. Maybe it will improve under Wommack, maybe not. When you're top 25, it's much easier to decline than to improve.

My greatest fear is that we're gonna get torched by good passing QBs like the mutt dude. Our secondary probably won't see a lot of passing in practice plus they are young.

Of course, they may also get some help from playing actual pass coverage that includes LBs for a change. Our pass defense was terrible last year, so why are you worried about it now?

Because it was terrible last year and it may not be any better this time. I would hate to see us torched that much again.

OTOH, our offense may grind up a lot of the clock this year and keep the enemy O off the field a lot. :D

Virginia and Maryland.

Remove one crucial boneheaded penalty with the game on the line, in each of those games last year, and we win 9 games.

From memory, 2nd to last play of the Maryland game, we're well within field goal range, and all we have to do to win is simply run up the middle, and not hold. We don't even need any yards. Just don't hold. So what did we do? We held, behind the line of scrimmage, and got moved back some 13 yards, prompting Chan and Bond to call a time out and wonder WTF to do next, have an argument, where Chan pulled rank on Bond and called a draw play that didn't gain us the yards back from the hold. Missed FG, end of game, all because of a dumbass hold.

UVA lines up on 4th and 3 in our red zone, with us in the lead, and we have like a 10 minute game delay because someone got injured. Can't remember who, but it was bad, one of those spinal things. So we come back after 10 minutes of delay, line up, and our D jumps offsides giving them a 1st and goal to win.

The Maryland game last year was burned into my brain. WracerX was there at Bradleys with me when I watched it, and when JTS said out loud to the bar, "all we have to do is not hold and we win." Maybe JTS cursed us. I was listening to the UVA game on XM radio, with Virginia announcers, so I'm not as certain about the details of that one.

We were that close from having ONE LOSS going into the Thursday Night game with VT.

They'll see just as much passing as they've always seen. On one of the few Adamm Oliver radio shows I've listened to, they mentioned that the #1 D and O went up against each other in the spring just for practice. For game preparation they'll go up against the scout team, which emulates the opposing team. Same as last year.

We were that close often.

Actually for the uva game, I'm pretty sure that Taylor Bennett pulled some shenanigans out of his ass, and scrambled for a ridiculous gain to give us a 4th and 1 or so on our last drive of the game. However, one of our WR's was unfortunately seriously injured, prompting the above mentioned delay. When play resumed, we line up for 4th and 1...and get either a false start or hold (I'm pretty sure it was a false start), and don't convert the fourth once we are pushed back. Game over. Whether or not either of us is right, our team was VERY undisciplined last year when it came to penalties, and often they really bit us in the behind in the worst times of the game.

You are correct.....after Aug 16 scrimmage our Defense will not see the triple option in practice or games again.
