Jackpot. Here's hoping it is Ryan Ayers. That would be a huge get.

I guess all these commits answers the allegation that CPJ only cares about offense and grossly neglects defense.

We have not made a lot of offensive offers...it takes a special athlete to fit the system. We may only take 1 QB, 1 RB, and 2 OL's this year...that is only 4 for offense and 8 for defense.

We will see how things change based on attrition, who likes us, needs, special athletes, etc.
 
He's listed as a DE on Scout.com. Anyone know what position we recruited him for?
 
He apparently also plays basketball and throws the shot put and discus.

Seems very athletic.
 
How peculiar, he isn't even listed in ESPN's 2010 recruitment list. Was he being considered for some other sport like basketball/baseball?

That can certainly put to rest any worries that PJ is one of those offensive obsessed coaches that doesn't care if his defense becomes awful. Though he has already showed his committment to both sides of the ball, along with special teams.

What is more important...him being on ESPN's list of possible recruits....or our coaching staff having him practice on our fields under their direction for two days against top talent? (in addition to viewing a lot of game film).

Don't get me wrong, I bet he is the kind of guy we are looking for (especially with how picky we should be for our OL), but it can be interesting to see what other schools thought he was good and I found the fact that he wasn't there to just be an interesting thing.

He was offered by NCState just this past week...in addition to Navy, Ohio, and Western Michigan. He was getting ready to head to camps at Duke and East Carolina where he was sure offers would follow. He was also recruited as a DT.

He is small for the pass happy pro set schools at 275...but he is perfect for us as he also has posted forty times of 4.96, is extremely agile, and has a nasty streak. More importantly, he fires off the ball with a flat back...perfect for cut blocking.
 
Many schools (UGA comes to mind) recruit/coach according to what ESPN, Scout, Rivals, etc say/see/think. GT/CPJ recruits/coaches off the information gleaned in person.

What is the % chance that it is Ayers and that he'll step forward sooner rather than later due to the limited scholarships....esp on the defensive side of the ball....Ayers come on down to the flats & let it be known you were born to be a JACKET!:biggthumpup:

I bet Ayers commits within the next 10-14 days. btw...Bostic is the better CB of the two.

Commits to GT within the next 10-14 days or just makes a decision?

Also curious why you think Bostic is the better of the two? I don't know anything about either except for a few blurbs on the public message boards.
 
You probably wont find him too many places listed as an offensive lineman because he played TE last year. I just watched the film from when we played Adairsville last season and he made several big catches against us, including a diving one off a tipped ball. So it is obvious that the kid is athletic.

He is very quick off the ball and gets low when blocking. He made it to the second level on our LBs before they had a chance to do anything several times. From what I could see, he uses his hands very well too.

Adairsville is almost where I ended up coaching this upcoming year but they didnt have a teaching slot for me in my certification. From talking to the coach though, he was looking at running something similar to what Tech does. I am not sure whether or not they still are but if they are that would give him a year in a similar offense under a great coach.

Also, he was everywhere on defense too and played just about every snap on both sides. He definitely has a motor.
