ConferenceUSA finally gets it\'s championship game!

It appears that the game ConUSA has been trying to arrange it's membership for over the last several yrs, a Conference Championship Game, will finally become a reality. The conference has been trying to add members to get to 12 for a few yrs. They added Army, then TCU, then So Fla. It's ironic that it took Army deconferencing & the Big East raiding the CUSA of Louisville, Cincinnati & So Fla to bring on the situation.
ConUSA has added Rice, SMU & Tulsa to join TCU, Houston & Tulane in the Western Div. The Eastern Div has added Marshall & Central Fla to join Southern Miss, Memphis, UAB & East Carolina. This makes for a fairly balanced & fairly split conference.
The problem is that there just isn't any BIG names & BIG draws, yet. TCU, Marshall & So Miss have made stunted moves to play 'big-time' ball, but haven't quite succeeded. Cen Fla also may make a jump up. The travel should be much, much better for all teams. Could this conference make a major move? Not unless they start winning some big OOC gms, but they could.
Where will their Conference Championship Game be played??? Houston would be real nice. New Orleans? Birmingham?
Here's an article on the 'new' Conference USA:

ConUSA will have 12 members in '05

Ace:

We saw UAB play UGAg (UGAg 16, UAB 13) and I have to tell you... they looked pretty impressive for a team that has only been in existence for 8 years. They ran all over the #4 team in the nation (at the time). Their offensive line was huge... some >350 lbs with smallest being 295. Alabama or Auburn would have easily wanted these guys in their lineup. Also, their home field is Legion Field in downtown Bham - not a shabby, po-dunk stadium. That's where the annual Alabama/Auburn game is played.

Can't speak for the other teams in the conference but if UAB is any indication of their potential, they should be interesting to watch in the future.

La. Tech should join CUSA, too.

The Musical Chairs episode of "Conference Building" seems to have worked out well for everyone. Conference USA used much better judgment in pursuing potential members, on the other hand, the ACC used clumsy tactics that pissed a lot of schools folks, caused a PR headache, but it appears to have worked out,........ and the Big East learned from everyone else's errors, then successfully shored up the remaining needs of their conference.

Houston would be a good location for a Championship Game for Conference USA. I'm guessing that The Big East would most likely go with the Carrier Dome for their Championship.

But, recently there was some suggestion that Atlanta be the site for an ACC Championship - on the exact same weekend as the SEC Championship Game!!! A Championship game is supposed to draw attention to the conference, sharing the moment with another conference shows bad judgment by the person that strongely made the suggestion. The logistical nightmares alone are enough to make anyone with good common intelligence think twice - hotel rooms for the entire weekend for four contengencies of Championship Game ticket holders - conflicts and overlap of event scheduling in the Georgia World Congress Center and the Georgia Dome (the largest single convention group that comes to town during a given week is 80,000 and that group stays for four or five days - the football followers from four schools will want to be in town for at least Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights - and we would want them to be in town that long without be incumbered by overlap and overcrowding.) It may appear to be "the easy thing to do", but it isn't, it shows short sided forethought. (That person that made the suggestion for the ACC w/ the SEC, was none other than our very own, DBraine,..... no surprise on the intellect scale!)

We need to select Orlando for the ACC Championship Game - where the Hot and Heavy Duty recruits reside. The hotel facilities are plentiful, the entertainment factors are perfect, the weather is right, and they would just go out of their way to accommodate our needs. No confusion - that Championship in that town would draw serious attention to the ACC Conference

The Texas teams could make a quick jump up in talent now that they are all joined together in a real conference again. TCU has REALLY recruited well & Houston is much better this yr, beating Miss St. Rice is also on the verge & this move will help them a lot. Tulane will benefit with Texas talent.
Cen Fla could also jump up quickly as this is a much, much better conference for them than the unidentifiable MAC. Marshall already has talent.
This league has possibilities.
