From his interview on the front page of gojackets.com he is the fastest guy on the team!

40 : 4.38 is best on the team
Vertical : 38.5 also best on the team

Look forward to him starting this year!

Wow! Those are some impressive numbers. I knew he was special from his play as a true freshman last year (FSU comes to mind for just one example), but I didn't realize he was that fast!

Had a feeling he'd improve from last year given a full spring session to work with.

Will that translate to the field??? That is the question? Don't get me wrong those are great numbers but let's not get caught up in the measurables. All this tell me is that Coop should have great range and he is explosive. What I wanna know will he step in the box, where he will be a lot this season, and make tackles?

That is the question, but he isn't a fresh recruit who is new to the college level and gives us nothing but his measurables to judge him on. He did pretty well his freshman year so there is reason to hope, especially since he's improved physically.

he is also 6-5, 200 lbs now.

Well I think Cooper will be a very good one for us and I for one hope he doesn't try to turn into a run stopping monster. It will only get him hurt and we need him more on the field covering ground than trying to morph into Ken Swilling.

Ok, we had a QB from "a long, long time ago" chime in on another thread, so as an ex-college LB I'll chime in here:

I couldn't believe how fundamentally sound Cooper Taylor was last year, particularly with respect to tackling. Let's face it--he played last year when he really wasn't strong enough as a tr-fr. The coaches couldn't keep this guy off the field.

He has tremendous football instincts and he tackles LOW. He was our second leading tackler for a reason--he gets his man DOWN. He was the only defender Peerman couldn't stiffarm. Fantastic technique.

Sure, he needs to continue to develop in pass coverage. IMO, the reason he saw the field last year was the inexperience of our LBs. Taylor was flying up and stopping runs. Reese was a better pass defender.

Now Taylor is being slotted at Wolf--a sort of hybrid weakside "LB" that's more like a strong safety. Perfect position for him. He is going to make a ton of plays there. This kid just knows how to play football, period.

My point is that I hope those numbers translate to CT being rangy and ballhawking safety (i.e. Morgan Burnett) And to correct one of the last post a "Wolf" is a strongside backer/nickel hybrid. It will be interesting to see Coop at LB depth playing a slot receiver.

As a true freshman, he was great. He seemed like a natural, always on the ball. Undersized yet there in every play. He's a baller, and I think he'll be the most improved on the team. The future is bright for this guy and Tech.

ElTechelero nails it. And there is not much to be added. I remember seeing him early in the season and wondering what a still-growing true freshman was doing on the field. Then I saw how he understood the plays as they developed, pursue the ball carrier, and deliver hit after hit. Two stars my ass.

Very impressive. He and Morgan Burnett are simply scary. I can't wait to see what he can do with his work ethic, an offseason, and a new Climpson QB.

Totally agree! He was a real steal for us! Has TECH blood! What else do we need to say?
:wow:

Coop was 2-star on Rivals and 3-star on Scout. His other offers were Virginia, Duke, and Marshall.

We were the only major offer for Dominique Reese and he was a 2-star by both sites.

Both of them outstanding athletes.

I didn't think Coop was *great* last year, but he did play better than a typical true freshman, and he did come up with some big plays.

Coop remind me lot of Kam Chancellor of VaTech. A long frame who good in/outside the box. Imagine if CT bulks to 220lbs and be the next Taylor Mays of USC
