Could 2024 be the end of conference championship games?

The more teams you add, the more the SEC is just going to demand that its less exceptional teams get bids. You could expand to 32 and they would be crying that a 5-loss Florida is left out over a 2-loss non-SEC school.

The fools in charge can't seem to grasp that more games doesn't always mean a better product. Or their incentives are short term financial ones that don't align with the long-term health of the game.

Bowls have been added to the point where no one really cares about bowls anymore. Players opting out of bowls is a growing problem. And now playoff games are being added to the point that people care less about conference championship games too.

Viewership of big college football games has been decreasing for a decade and I think this is partly why.

It's super simple add until you include all. There are 134 FBS schools. All schools play 6 scheduled games, 1 FBS, 1 rivalry, and 4 regional conference games to warm up. After this, the worst record teams in the country are put into a lottery to see which 6 are left out of the 128 team bracket.

The 128 team bracket is made from lottery. Win and you advance, lose and you go into losers bracket to finish out your season of 12 games. There is no football played in week 4, 8, week before natty.

Win out the bracket and you have a trophy, everyone else GTFO. No one can control a cupcake schedule except in warm up games. Nobody can complain they didn't get a chance or the other team had a better bye week.

Right now too many teams are trying to figure out a way not to lose i.e. ole miss vs just winning.

Make NCAA football not for pussies again.

Obviously, this is just one man's idea, I guess, but it sure makes sense to me, although they would hate it in the cesspool

That makes too much sense lol..so that's why it would never happen. I think it would be a great idea though. You could have true region champions and still have the ability to play games with other regions and still be able to play everyone within your own region in a regular season 11-12 game schedule.

Yeah, I remember when UGA played Texas and only about 5,000 fans showed up to watch it since it was a meaningless game because both teams will make the playoffs. I may just stroll over to the Benz and pick up a $5 ticket to the SECCG since no one will be there because they are hoarding their money for the playoffs.

This is by far the OPPOSITE of reality. The reason NBC, CBS and Fox have invested and now have so many prime time games into late night is because ratings are increasing. Article from Football Scoop below was just for the first half of the year.

You can also go weekly by week to see the ratings by school/game here.

Maybe he confused TV viewership with attendance.
