Could Be Worse - At Least We Don’t Have Mel Tucker

$95 MM 10-year contract extension last year, now 3-5 and team completely out of control. But even their fans are probably saying, “Well, at least we don’t have Geoff Collins!”

This is what scares the hell out of me. Coach compensation is out of control - even established coaches at schools with a lot of resources have been face-planting lately and the buyouts to get rid of them are insane.

We got off easy with Collins relatively speaking - we cannot afford another mistake.

Wasn’t it some billionaire that effectively took on the risk of that contract? Hope he’s ready to open up the checkbook cause Tuck sucks.

They are a bit of a dumpster fire right now, but they do have an incredibly stacked freshman class that isn't going to get worse. They also have another 3 5-star commits this year (in a small class). They should pillage the transfer portal hard this year to plug some holes and try to find a QB. As much as I love watching that cult fall on their face, I think they'll bounce back quickly with all of that talent.

Pretty ironic that Tucker "stole" our DE coach, and even with our DL departures to the portal, our DL got considerably better, AND we took his DB coach which many say was the weakest link on his staff and our DB's are also now considerably better.

Mel Tucker is 16-12 over 3 years and his team doesn't look like they got a text the night before saying, “Hey want to play football tomorrow?”

This is even more crazy than the Jimbo contract. Jimbo at least has a national title and a record of being a pretty good coach. Tucker had a 7 or 8 game run and got close to $100 million. MSU will regret this for a long time.

I can't tell if you're talking about MSU or Texas A&M

Won 11 games and a New Years Six Bowl last year; finished in the top 10; recruiting like crazy
Started 8-0, got his big extension, then finished 3-2. 3-5 so far this year, and just suspended 4 players for beating up a Michigan player in the tunnel after Saturday’s loss.

They also had Nick Saban. And lost Nick Saban. So they've been regretting that for a long time already. They didn't want that to happen again.

Every contract around sports is insane.

It really shows how terrible of business men these schools/owners/managers/franchises are. I can guaran-damn-tee you these guys can be locked down for half a million to a million a year and I'm talking the players/coaches at the top of their game.

All you have to do is collaborate to reset the market. What are these guys gonna go do? Coach highschool football for 70k a year? The öööö society does is actually getting really stupid when you are paying first responders who save lives 45k but pay these losing chucklenuts tens of millions.

It's the equivalent of paying a painter 25k to show up at your house, put the wrong color on only half finished and then walk away with a 10k bonus.

These guys can still make extra off endorsements but the base they're promised is literally one of the dumbest ideas I have ever seen.
