I thought he was looking at the Cowboy's HC position.

It looks like Wade Phillips has secured the Cowboys position.

I heard we talked to Ronnie Leston who is the oc at Jacksonville State and is very young with little experience. here is his bio

Ronnie Letson begins his third season coordinating the Gamecocks offense and will also coach wide receivers for JSU head coach Jack Crowe again for the 2006 season.

In 2005, the JSU rushing offense led the Ohio Valley Conference for the third straight season as junior Clay Green earned All-America honors along with offensive center Rod Olds, who has signed a NFL contract with the Tennessee Titans.

With Letson leading the JSU offense in 2004, the Gamecocks set school records for rushing yards per game and total offense. JSU also led the Ohio Valley Conference in rushing offense (260.27) and finished sixth in all of NCAA I-AA, while leading the league in total offense (444.45), scoring offense (37.45) and passing efficiency (142.56).

Letson, who coached the Gamecock receiving crops for two seasons from 2000-01, spent the 2002 football season as the receivers coach at Presbyterian College, where the Blue Hose finished with an 8-3 record. He was an offensive administrative graduate assistant at Ole Miss in 2003 as the Rebels finished with a 10-3 record, a share of the Southeastern Conference Western Division Title and Cotton Bowl Champions.

Letson was moved to the defensive side the ball as a graduate assistant in the Spring of 2004 before returning to the Gamecock coaching ranks in May of 2004.

The 1999 graduate of Ole Miss was a three-year letterman after helping the Rebels to three straight bowl victories. Ole Miss claimed the Ford Motor City Bowl against Marshall and two wins in the Independence Bowl, including a last second win over Oklahoma.

Letson was also a member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll and the University of Mississippi Athletic Academic Honor Roll.

Letson, 29, is single.

Dan Reeves would signal a return to Chan's offense. Which, for those of you with short memories, was actually worse than Nix's.

2003: 21.08ppg (90th)
2004: 22.00ppg (85th)
2005: 18.50ppg (103rd)
2006: 24.93ppg (54th)

This is not an encouraging development.

Wow, being 41 has never seemed as old as it does after reading this about Ronnie Jr. Ronnie and I grew up in the same church, played church softball together, stayed up all night many a time smoking bar-b-que on the church pit for the annual bbq sale. I have known him since he was an infant.

I know that during his time at Ole Miss and his current stay at Jax State he has been one of the main players in recruiting. Hard to believe he's been at it for seven years now, but he has slowly progressed up to OC.

He's very young and inexperienced, don't know what kind of a real shot he may have but I'll try and find out. 'bsakoff', where did you hear this from?

Why wouldn't Reeves use his own offense?

The problem with "Chan's Offense" was that Chan didn't have the time as a HC to devote fully to offensive gameplanning, learning the other team's D, etc, and that effected his playcalling ability. The same goes for Ralph Freidgen - being a HC hurts your ability to be an OC.

Dan Reeves has a great football mind, and loads of experience, including taking several teams built similarly to ours on offense to the superbowl. I can see absolutely no problem with having Reeves as a dedicated OC.

Ronnie Leston looks good too, on paper. What kind of offense was he running?

I heard Chan on 680 last night, and they asked him about the OC spot. He said one of their priorities was making sure that the new guy didn't make wholesale changes to their system/termanology, so the transition would be easier. That's all he'd really say.

Edit:

9 superbowl appearances as a coach or assistant. It's hard to argue with that kind of pedigree.

From a post on one of the other boards.
IMO it's right on the money.

I think we would be doing ourselves a disservice if we feel people of age can't learn new trends and adapt with changes. In fact, I watch a team like OSU, USC, UMich win constantly with talent and old fashioned football. Throw in Auburn, LSU, Miami of old, and VT to that list. None of those teams run flash and dash modern offenses. What they do do is execute, recruit well and play the game like it should be played.

This is what Tech will be about. Recruit well and run football 101 to win. Gone are the days of the fridge. Don't expect a Spurrier, Urban offense. Expect a tough D, Nose grinding team that will mimic the likes of those teams above. And BELIEVE me, Dan Reeves is more than apt to run offenses identical to any of those teams, and is more than apt to run an offense with new wrinkles like a Tenn Titans, or UF. We just won't run it all the time.

I guess we can agree to disagree...but the term the game passing someone by always makes me laugh. You are either a good coach or not, but you don't just hit 60 and forget everything, and you don't just hit 60 and be unwilling to learn new trends that work!!! Chan stated the reason he didn't add new wrinkles was time of doing two jobs (OC and HC) not that he couldn't learn...so he ended up falling back on what he was comfortable with.

I believe Dan Reeves would be a tremendous asset to GT and our football team.

One thing's for certain with Reeves around. We won't have a shortage of tight ends.

I mean, how serious is this rumor?

Are Chan and Dan good friends?

Would he be coming back because he enjoys it, or does he just want a paycheck?
