It's not a dumb question. That's what it stands for. I've never really understood why. It's not a Clemson thing.
A mythical championship is a championship which isn't determined on the field, i.e. the BCS. I think technically the BCS doesn't quite fit the definition since there IS a final game(unlike with say high school sports where it only goes up to state and the national champion is just whoever's at the top of the poll), but it's pretty much the same thing...you could have four teams with identical records who never got to play each other, and only two of them have a chance at the title.
