CPJ: 7-1 in BDS Night Games, 2-8 vs. MIA

One game I always think of that could have gone the other way, against a very good Georgia team, was 2007. That UGA team beat UF with Tebow, really beat down a good Auburn team, went to the Sugar Bowl, and finished #2 nationally. Yet at Grant Field, UGA kept fumbling punts in the end zone or deep in their own territory, but Tech couldn't seem to pick one up. Otherwise the game would have gone the other way.

Was that when Morgan Burnett fumbled right at the end zone? That happened right in front of me and was, um, not ideal.

Most of these games are much closer than folks seem to think when they just look at the overall record. 2008 UGA was #1 ranked preseason. 2014 and '16 were pretty good teams. When Richt DID make an awful decision, the squib kick, Tech pulled an upset. Again, I'll always appreciate Richt, but he'll always make weird in-game decisions.
My only memory of the 07 game is a punt bouncing off a Uga players helmet in the north end zone. It turned into a touchback or something IIRC,
I was sitting about 2 rows from the field in 121, surprised it didn’t knock him down. It was kind of comical.

The exact details have trickled out of my memory but that sounds right. Lots of stuff happening right around that same end zone, any one of which would have changed the game. Chan's swan song at Grant Field.

The one that always stick in my mind from that era was the 06 game. The play where Reggie fumbled and the UGA player pulls the ball out of the pile after the whistle had sounded and they let him run it in for a TD. Very reminiscent of the 2014 game.

That's the issue. The refs didn't actually blow the whistle. They were pulling guys off the pile with the whistle in their mouths but no one blew the damn whistle. It was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen and will never forget it.
