Over the last two semesters, the mean grade-point average of the Georgia Tech football team has risen significantly. Not coincidentally, the Yellow Jackets' improved academic numbers began about the same time Johnson was named Tech's head football coach a year ago.

Figures for the recent fall semester show that the mean GPA of the Tech football team was 2.68, up from 2.52 one year ago. Forty percent of the football team earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Forty-two different Yellow Jackets earned Dean's List and/or Faculty Honor.

"I think this speaks well of our players and coaching staff," Johnson said. "We have stressed academics from the beginning and we think we can see those numbers go higher in the future."

Johnson continues to prove that he was/is the best choice for Tech. Building a heck of a legacy here and its only been a year.

This is excellent news --and yes, further proof that the correct hire was made and that the new contract is very much in order.

It's all about discipline. By treating the players as if they are college kids and not professionals, we're seeing some positive dividends off the field as well. This kicks azz!

And to think, a year ago I really didn't know much about CPJ. I knew Navy had strung together some good years, but didn't know who their coach was. Personally, I couldn't be more pleased. And news like this just reinforces it.

This is something all our coaches can point to when talking w/ the parents of the kids we're recruiting.

All the more reason for his new contract. The man is a winner, on and off the field.
