CPJ comments on 8-21 & removing seats

We were in the South Endzone for 4 years, and loved every minute of it. We also got pissed when the team would choose to play into the North Endzone on overtimes because we always felt we were louder than the folks in the North were.

Maybe they wanted you to be louder for when the other team was trying to score in the south end zone? Although I think they use the same end zones for OT?

Rules Jr and his buddies always sat in the front row of the south end zone. They got there when the gates opened and ran for it. They loved those seats.

Tear down Wardlaw completely and build a better facility there
And do it like FSU. Pitch it to the board of regents as a new educational building with classrooms or labs, and then just earmark some club seats/suites on the stadium side of the building.

I think having a weight room that looks out into the stadium could actually be a really good recruiting tool too. I cant think of any other schools that have that, specifically, so it would stand out to kids interested in unique cool stuff like that.

I agree that removing seats for removing seats sake would be done in the nosebleeds, but if I get to have what we have in the south end zone or a cool new facility, I know what my choice is.

I can understand the visual behind it, but appears we continue to not learn the same lessons over and over.

You do not reduce capacity.
Disagree.
Reduce capacity, improve the experience and increase demand. Also, its about per caps per seat not just gate. Problem is with todays HD tv, sports bars...etc. you have to enhance the game day experience and make that experience something they buy from you and not something brought from home. FSU couldn't sell out the Doak outside of Miami games. Their seating and fan amenities sucked. Their loyal out of town fans spent more money outside the stadium than they did in it. FSU rebuilt the end zone- into chair seating with access into multiple clubs as well as terrace seating. Thats just the start.

That is prime seating. I don't mind the idea of reducing capacity or booting the students from that area because we should be more focused on revenue per seat than pure body count. Put the weightroom on the ground floor and add some premium seating/lounge above it. We might not sell out the entire stadium, but every year the premium seating sells out. Tech fans have money to spend. I'd be glad to purchase premium seating... but I'm not going back to the current Club Section (AKA: The pissed off wife and crying kid refugee camp).

You're not going back to club seating because why? Just curious.

It isn't a high end experience. The space is a dark cave which I could look past if it weren't littered with women and kids either running around and laying all over the floor. It is a shitty daycare center and not a club lounge. If the lounge were bigger, maybe it wouldn't be an issue.

You do not reduce capacity. The negative our recruits would get from our opponents would be equal to any positive from the improvements.

Schools serious about winning & investing focus on doing things to sell MORE tickets, not to do things to enable you to sell LESS tickets.

If there is anyone with half a brain left at GT, there are obviously better solutions than this reactionary, off the top of our heads solution.

I love TStan compared to mbob, but hell we could hire anyone to decrease the capacity of GF, or get us less cash per year than R, or continue our relationship with a non existent radio station.
Bobby Dodd is already bigger than Autzen Stadium at Oregon and almost as big as Lane Stadium at VT - two stadiums well-known for their great environments and consistently mentioned by recruits as one of the reasons for choosing the school. You can absolutely be successful without a huge stadium. We obviously shouldn't start taking out seats for no reason, but if we're doing it to add something that clearly improves the experience of fans at the game, we'd be foolish not to at least consider it.

IMO, we should have a full stadium redesign. Eliminate Wardlaw amd maybe Edge. Bring back the lower bowl on north avenue that had a really sick facade along the street and great street presence. No higher seats/decks on the south to preserve views of downtown. Integrate a giant fan hall/beer garden/plaza like they have at Autzen where you can drink between quarters and shit.

As part of this, peters parking garage is demoed and peters park comes back as a sick classic tailgating zone. It would be hard to do, but i would love to see some connection of Grant Field through the stadium to peters park (and the campus). One of these days, I'll model all this shit and share it.

FSU always screws the visiting band

Didn't we put them in UN last time they played in ATL?
The F$U band was up there. I asked and was told that F$U asked for additional seats, put their band in them in the UN and sold the seats normally occupied by visiting bands to their fans.

It totally took the F$U band out of the game. They looked awesome up there as GT fans were on the field celebrating. What a time to be alive.

FSU puts away bands basically behind and to the left of their band. The away band seats are at the back of the bowl and it’s like playing into a padded room - no one can hear you
