CPJ is More Hands On

Aren't our guys supposed to be smart?

I mean, GA Southern players were able to grasp the concept.

I don't understand the hate on this board for Sewak. He's not the problem. Last year wasn't great for the line but we had trouble across all offensive positions (particularly A backs). Most of CPJ's mediocre years are much more the fault of the defense than the offense, much less the OL.

"fault of the defense"? thank you Mrs. Johnson......

I think Sewak needs to be in the discussion about our blocking woes, but on the other hand, Lamar Owens' A-backs don't look that good either. They are not clearing the outside. This blocking problem just doesn't seem to go away. Yeah, we did well against Vanderbilt of the SEC, but I think some Gulf South Conference schools could take them. Al Groh got fired during the middle of the season. Why are other coaches getting a pass?

You're catching flack for this, but you're not wrong. In the mediocre years (2010-2013) defense was the main problem. We were still putting up a pretty good offensive numbers, but the defense struggled to stop the opposition. However, the one truly bad year (2015), the larger issue was definitely on the offensive side of the ball. The defense, while still allowing a lot of yards, has been pretty good about keeping teams out of the endzone over the last couple years.

All of that being said, even in the mediocre years (i.e. years where the offense was good), there were games when the OL got outclassed. Remember the whole Goon Squad thing? That combined with last year's cluster is why the board dislikes Sewak.

CPJ publicly said the OL outside of Mason was not good in 2014 either. It has not played well for at least five years as a unit. There is a common denominator. We hired CPJ to run the team, particularly the offense. Blaming anyone but him for a poor defense when he has half the roster committed to backs is a joke.

CPJ went to Al Groh and said "Al, why the hell did we let that MTSU player run for 200 yards on us?" and Al looked at him and said

"When I compare
What I have lost with what I have gained,
What I have missed with what attained,
Little room do I find for pride.

I am aware
How many days have been idly spent;
How like an arrow the good intent
Has fallen short or been turned aside.

But who shall dare
To measure loss and gain in this wise?
Defeat may be victory in disguise;
The lowest ebb is the turn of the tide. "

And that was that.

I definitely didn't mean to imply CPJ isn't also responsible for the defense. I was just agreeing that the offense wasn't the problem in the mediocre years.

And yeah, it stands to reason that most of the OL in 2014 wasn't superb either since the 2015 OL = 2014 OL - Shaq.

I have no idea if Sewak is a good or bad coach, but when CPJ fired his first two DCs, he made the comment that he simply makes those decisions based on results. He wasn't interested in judging whether those results were based on the athletes or the coaching or injuries. Maybe he was just making an excuse to get rid of a coach he didn't like, but he established his standard for retaining coaches. If we don't make progress on the OL this year, CPJ will either need to fire someone or admit that he was just making excuses when he fired his former DCs.

Wasn't trying to jump on you, I'm just frustrated with the CPJ fanatics like the OP who completely ignore the facts. It was very obvious in the first three games that there was a problem and it took an ass whipping against Clemson for the coach to do something different.

If I were Todd, I will tell PJ to read Sewak the riot act. Tell him he's gone if things don't get better REAL soon. And if you won't fire him, then I will.
