CPJ NOT a finalist for Coach of the Year

This is complete trash! Coach of the year has nothing to do with the schools suspensions from a prior time.

I can understand them all but Tressel. With all that talent returning, how do you honor a coach that got blown out in its biggest game and lost its biggest home game?

But those that are bitching, you need to look at reality:
- GT did not win its division, much less conference
- Lost 3 games including 2 to unranked teams in UNC (by 3 TDs) and UVA (at home)

Preseason predictions, blah blah blah. This Tech team won 7 games last year and fired its coach. So there was talent, just not good coaching of said talent. Given that does it make sense to say that a coach that won 2 more games than the last guy is that great that he should be COTY?

You can't just gloss over the preseason expectations, just like you can't write our season off as only two wins more than last year.

1. We installed a VASTLY new offensive scheme that went against almost everything the players we had knew. As such, there were numerous transfers, including our starting QB, #1 Reciever, and TE (even though he had no role in the offense). We also lost some recruits including our #1 prospect, Sean Renferee(sp?). I understand that most of the defections were ppl who weren't suited for the offense, but to say there wasn't a drastic overturn in our program is completely short-selling the situation. If you don't think the new offense was such a big deal, I will direct you to our friends up in Ann Arbor. I will also point out that they were ranked preseason #25, and expected to do much better than us.

2. Aside from the wins, CPJ had a deeper effect on the program. He united an admittedly fractured team, and instilled them with a toughness that not only resembled his own, but one that all Tech fans can appreciate. He pumped life into a fanbase that was becoming more and more lifeless under Gailey. Add that to dramatic, and streak breaking wins over f$u, and uga, and Tech fans are turning cartwheels over the thought of next year and beyond.

3. You don't have to win the national title to be coach of the year. You don't have to necessarily win your division. You just have to have a profound impact on your team, and in the best case scenario, your fanbase through your coaching. CPJ has done all of that in earnest. Not to mention the fact that he was in full competition for the division crown during the last game of the season.

The way you just wrote off CPJ's merit for this award is nothing short of a slap in the face to everything that Tech accomplished this season. He is more than deserving of the award, and if it weren't for the unfortunate probation issue that is no fault of his, I do believe that he would have an excellent chance of taking it home.

Yup. We're currently serving our last year of probation, so PJ isn't eligible for the award.

Forget my comment then. I thought we were out of the woods after last year.

That being said, I think it's unfair to penalize a new coach for a program that was under probation when he came in.

Doesn't that make PJ look all the more impressive? He did what he did without the full number of scholarships. Imagine what could have happened if we didn't have that stupid probation.

I read the rule as infractions happening this year, not serving time this year.

kirbee, we also have one of the youngest teams in the nation and our starting 22 against Miami and UGA was extremely young. Magazines predicted that we would win 4 games for a reason, and it was not just installing a new system.

If he wasn't eligible then PJ shouldn't have been on the Ballot--plain and simple--just another typical example of sports media ineptness and bias (evident by the choices who ARE eligible)--never mind, he is MY COY--and he is ACC COY--greater awards ahead for PJ and our team!!

You're preaching to choir, brother. I'm just looking at the big picture objectively.

I agree he's worth of a nomination. I don't think he deserves to win over guys like Saban or Leach (where is he?) or Wittingham.

Yeah, I get that. You don't have to tell me that. Perhaps those that decide these things didn't know, maybe they did.

If youth is your criteria, you know who else is really young? Alabama.

I don't like the guy but Saban is national COTY and its not close. Also never discount a coach that leads a team to undefeated season like Whittingham. That's an amazing accomplishment.

I'm surprised Mike Leach isn't on the list over Brown and Stoops who have been loaded with NFL talent.

This is total ****ing bull****. Where's an email address to tell these eggheads how stupid they are?

Since this is the F-150 bailout coty award or some financial crisis I need bailout money award I'm not too worried about it.

Let's see how CPJ does in the Bobby Dodd COTY award. That's the only one I care about.

Actually, they are pretty smart. Somehow they've taken something completely meaningless that they made up and gotten thousands of fans from many teams to go to their site and look at their marketing(and chastise other fans to do so daily). They were even able to get thousands of us to do so even though they never had any intention of giving us their mythical award or even having the fan voting be anything close to a true fan vote, as evidenced by the fact that they encourage you to vote multiple times. Sending them an email will only confirm that they have succeeded in their goal. This is why I really hate anything to do with fan voting.

I had to have voted at least 50 times for Paul Johnson. If you clicked his name and looked at all the messaged written my was number 2. That is some BS. I had some UGA friends who voted for PJ, cause they thought he was the best. I hate that Vince Dooley is one of the guys on the board.

Are you f'n kidding me? Trev Alberts is on the Bobby Dodd COTY board? Corso is bad, but he actually was a coach. Trev is just too much.

I do not mind Trev. I think he does an okay job as an analyst -- so why not an All-American/Dick Butkus award winner -- especially one from an option team?
