CPJ on Aycock

CPJ draws a line in the land. You cant take a visit after committing, period. Its easy to enforce, its clear.

We can go back and forth about fairness and who did what when and how serious it was compared to what. Aycock broke the rules, Hill did not. Bottom line.

Didn't Julian Burnett visit South Carolina after he already committed to us? Why wasn't his scholly pulled?

I'm not sure I agree with the way this has been handled. I understand its CPJ's policy and Aycock was fully aware of this when he took the visit. That being said, expecting a 17-18 year old kid to make a life changing decision without waffling from time to time is asking a little much IMO.

The other problem I can see is will this policy be administered fairly. If a 5 star-top-notch-next-Tim-Tebow recruit takes a visit and then comes back to GT and says he'd really like to stay with us, we're going to tell him to take a hike? I honestly would hope not.

I love CPJ and I'll continue to support him but this is just a bit too heavy handed for me. I hope it doesn't hurt us in the long run.

did you read the part where CPJ said that if the recruit said he still wanted to take some visits then that was ok with the coach. just dont say you are not going to do it and then do it.

I think that it was mainly a communication issue. If you let the coaches know of your intentions, then they will not hold it against you if you do something along those lines, but if you do something out of the blue, like visit another school that you had not mentioned, and you had previously stated that you were firm in your commitment to Tech, that was the problem, not the fact that he had did it, but just not keeping the coaches informed.

No, you're wrong.

Hill was pulling on UGA's chain with the call to Gardner. He called them to mess with them a little bit. He was never wavering again..

FWIW, this comes straight from the horses mouth.

What different does it make if the kid goes on a visit (Aycock) or holds court at his house (Hill) for another suitor. To use the girlfriend analogy, is it any worse for your girlfriend to mess around with someone else at her place or his place.

Hill was considering signing with UGA yesterday. From the sound of things, Hill was much more likely to decommit than Aycock.

Have another team's entire coaching staff over to your house, call them the day before signing day to say your still interested, and even though your committed don't make a final decision until signing day morning, but whatever you do don't go on a visit because then I might think that you were having second thoughts about your commitment. Give me a break.

there is something called an "official visit". it is different from a meeting at your home or an unofficial visit. CPJ says "no official visits after committing". its pretty simple really. you can grab a soda with a girl, but you cant go out on a official date with her.

This whole girlfriend thing is a humorous metaphor considering the school. With our ratio it would make sense for a woman to date two men. Then everyone would be happy!

This will help us in the future. Next season don't expect as many verbal commitments as early, but when we do get the commitments, you can take them to the bank.

There is at least some small degree of inconsistency here, but I think there were several factors the lead to pulling DA's ship and not Hill's:
(1) The timing of the commit - DA committed a while back and we stopped recruiting at the qb position. Going to Auburn established a huge lack of trust and respect.
(2) The position of the player - qb is the leader of the team. DA going to Auburn showed lack of leadership and trust, which is not a good thing on the field.
(3) The specific conversations between coach and player - It is now obvious that DA and PJ both knew what was at stake if DA visited elsewhere.

PJ's been recruiting for a while. He knows what he's doing. I do not fall in the same boat as those of you who wish DA "the best." I hate Auburn and hope they suck. To hell with 'em.
Congrats to the GT recruits! They've got a great coach who is going to make them better!!!

At this point, what difference does any of this make? What is basically going on here is a game of HE SAID, SHE SAID. We don't actually know any thing that has been said besides what CPJ said regarding the Aycock recruitment. The rest of the hearsay and innuendo can be tossed in a cesspool, mixed and then extracted to mean what you want it to. Until we here from all sides (the proverbial horse's mouth), then who really knows what the real story is.

The fact of the matter is that every decision/choice that one makes in life (good or bad) comes with associated consequences (good or bad). The good in this case is that Stephen Hill honored the terms of his commitment and is a GT signee. OTOH, Aycock did not honor the terms of his commitment and therefore, he will not be attending GT. Bad for us because we missed out on a good player, but good for him because he signed a scholarship to attend another school.

For those that want to play the 'forensic psychology' head game, you're fighting a losing battle. You might want to wait for the AUC article to come out in the coming days, so they can give their fair and unbiased take on the situation. Better yet, why don't you get CPJ on the horn and ask him directly. I'm sure the man will tell you what you want to hear. :laugher:

Me neither. I don't get all the "best of luck" crap like its your nephew or something. If your not going to GT, who gives a rat's arse. If you jilted us at the alter, to hell with you.

I don't get it, either. What's will all the good luck b.s. like its your nephew or something? If your not GT, I don't give a shiite. If you just screwed us out of offering another kid, to hell with you.

People get too caught up sometimes with recruiting. You don't have to say "best of luck", but you also don't have to say "Break a leg... literally" (like I saw in some of the 'Hill chooses Tech!' article comments) when a student chooses a different school.

Its also funny when an athlete is 'can't miss, amazing' when he is thinking about you, but if he doesn't hes 'overrated with character flaws' if he doesn't.

I don't hate Auburn (we have beaten them the last two times we have played, and in a normal year they give UGaG a battle, and their unis are first class), but I will be disappointed if this kid has a good career, which I doubt he will, given the new staff over there.

Aycock screwed up big time. If you tell someone you're going to do something then that's your word. If your not sure of your commitment, hell just say so. Problem here is that Aycock promised, then PJ didn't persue any more QB's when he could have. Pissed PJ off! Don't want you, don't need you!!

It is pretty impressive to me that the coach backed CPJ the way that he did.

it means that CPJ just earned some respect and we might be getting more kids from Tampa down the road...

Also, in one of the articles it mentioned how Aycock wouldn't do any form of commitment without his brothers approval, and someone else on this board had found something that indicated his brother set up the thing with Auburn. I find that kinda interesting.
