CPJ on quarterback options (pardon pun)

Coop ran this offense in high school. He could probably run it better than some of the current backups, but he is just too talented on the defensive side of the ball for them to switch him back. If he came in as an emergency QB, I would feel confident that he could make some things happen.
We're making an awful lot of assumptiong about this, the first being that someone who hasn't played QB in 2-3 years would be better at it than someone who has. IMO PJ was simply signaling that we won't quit just because of injuries and that he will do what he has to to put a competitive unit on the field. The rest of this speculation is silly.

You guys just don't know what you're talking about. You do what you have to do.

I can recall the B'More Colts back in the day when they were either NFL champs or contender when they had Johnny Unitas, the legend, at QB. Unitas went down with a knee during the stretch of one season (67-68, I guess, I can't really remember the dates but I do remember the games) and then his backup, I guess it was Morrall, went down and they didn't have another QB. Their HB Tom Matte who'd played QB at Ohio State (I think) was pressed into service for the last few games of the season.. Damn near won a championship. One of the gutsiest things I've ever seen.

Lesson is never discount what can be done. Having all these guys, heck half the team could probably learn to play a decent QB if they had to and they had CPJ up their ass.

yeah, in 1965.

offenses are much more complicated now. you cant just throw someone in there

btw, why bring up some crap pro story when you can just recall Ken Whisenhut, freshman TE at Georgia Tech playing Notre Dame to a tie after we lost both our QBs..

This is classic coachspeak....downplaying a tough situation.

I do not care if you put the greatest athlete in the world there...in this offense you are going to put the ball on the ground without a TON of repititions. You may rip off a good play here or there...but you are going to fumble an exchange or pitch it poorly and turn it over.

I do not care what they did 2 or 3 years ago in high school when they were All-World. Heck, David Sims had 2,000 yds passing; 1,250 yds rushing; and 40 td's in just his senior year alone!....offered scholarships by Florida, Michigan, and Tennessee...and he is struggling to pick it up right now.

If we ever see Burnett, Reese, or Coop at QB we are in trouble. Not because they are not capable...but because they would not have the necessary repetitions and experience.

Well if they can at least handle Center-To-Quarterback then at least we can go 3 and out without turning it over.

I seriuosly doubt it will ever get to the point of using defensive players, but it's not the end of the world if it does happen. I believe Ken Whisenhunt unexpectedly played some QB for Tech and did fairly well.

30 years ago Ken Whisenhunt stepped in as a true freshman to play QB against Notre Dame after finishing his high school career as a QB. He was 3 of 5 passing for 29 yards....we had 140 total yards of offense....zero td's and one FG for a 3-3 tie. All we did was turn around and hand it off.

Can you imagine trying to run our complicated pre and post snap read offense...with timing and precision being critical...with someone who has never run it and has not even played QB in 2-3 years? It would be a long day.

Yay, someone who gets it...
